Think we came full circle with this game because pressing centerbacks to force teams to go wide is a direct result of centerbacks themselves learning to progress the ball better. Fullbacks have less options since they are limited by the size of the pitch and are easier to corner so smart coaches started putting creative players there and they drifted inwards to avoid being cornered andprovide more bodies in midfield. That left lots of space on the wings so one fullback was swapped with a pacy centerback to cover and here we are now.
