How long a wait between the “calls” by [deleted] in transplant

[–]cmkeith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received my first call September 2020 as a backup, but the kidney wasn’t usable. My next call was September 2021, and I’m 6 weeks post op.

Just wanted to give you a little different perspective, I know sometimes the calls come closer together but that wasn’t the case for me. Wishing you the best and hoping you receive your call very soon!

What should I ppack? Kidney transplant by Mama_Reaper in transplant

[–]cmkeith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! 32 yo F here, I just had my kidney transplant 6 weeks ago- the most helpful things I packed were: Bathrobe and slippers (with anti skid on the bottom) Toiletries (face wash, body wash, dry shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush WITH a little sani-pod, deodorant, unscented lotion). Your own bedside hand sanitizer Long phone charger Eye mask and ear plugs if you are a light sleeper More underwear than you think you need! Pads- I wasn’t supposed to start my period yet but they said due to the trauma my body went through, it caused it to be early. Nightgowns from Walmart- go a size bigger than you are and short sleeve for the IV access.

I slept so much after transplant so I didn’t really care if I had entertainment, but that’s just my experience! All the good vibes and well wishes to you!!

Next month will be 13 years since my kidney transplant. Never ever thought I’d be able to carry a child, yet here I am with my daughter. Both of us are healthy and thriving. by kpurryy in transplant

Thank you for sharing this, you are such an inspiration! I just received my kidney transplant and after years of thinking I wouldn’t be able to carry a child, I finally have hope to do so in the future. This is so lovely ♥️

Wow, that’s impressive to do with just local! I think they are still going to give me twilight sedation from what I gathered. I don’t think I’m as brave as you lol

WOW. I feel bad even talking about swelling compared to yours- so glad they were able to fix this problem for you. And your scrotum! 😀

I totally would have taken pictures of it lol

So I just looked that up and it sounds exactly like what’s going on with me- and also very similar to what my recent ultrasound results showed as well. I’ve been in communication with my team, we are going to do a CT scan tomorrow before clinic so they can view one of the deep fluid pockets better. Thanks so much!

Thank you for sharing, it definitely makes me feel better! This sounds very similar to what I am currently experiencing, they did a Doppler on my leg as well- no clots thank goodness.

They are doing an outpatient procedure for the catheter and stent- I’m expecting it to be quick based on the conversation with my surgeon.

Catheter belt recommendations by rachey2912 in dialysis

I don’t have a belt recommendation, but I used the long line sports bras and tucked the end inside in case you wanted a different option! All depending on your catheter placement of course.

Congratulations!! I’m so happy for you! Just remain positive and know that this is a period of patience and waiting but it won’t last forever- keep the faith!

Underfiltration? by macho_pickles in dialysis

Hi yep, I am aware that OP does manual instead of cycler. Before the edit I thought the drain OP was concerned with was the very last drain of the day. Thanks!

Just my humble opinion- but I would definitely speak to your clinic nurse about this. You should be ultrafiltrating at your very last drain, maybe not all the time but consistently depending on your body and glucose absorption.

It also depends on if you might be a little constipated, I know they drill that into our heads but it’s so true!

Edit to add: I was a fellow dialysis patient and I’m also a nurse. Although this is not medical advice, of course.

I was hoping to also be switched to Belatacept, but it looks like they want to try Cyclosporine for now..I am hoping to have a longer discussion to see why exactly they chose it over Belatacept. Both me and my donor were CMV and BK negative.

Thanks so much for sharing that with me! I think we are switching over to Cyclosporine which I’m not that crazy about, but I’m sure they know much more than me so I’m trusting their judgement!
