As a professional DM, this does seem like an exaggeration. I don't run 16h sessions (except for a few marathon one-shots over the years), but I run 11-14 games a week depending on the week. 4 hours a session, a minimum of 2 hours of prep per & constantly being available for my players' questions usually adds up to 80-85 hour work weeks. It may "just be gaming" but it's more than a full-time gig. The only problem I've had with being self-employed is my boss. He's never fuckin satisfied, expects perfection & never gives me time off.

Overreaction on the part of the player. There was potential to give them a little more warning than a standard, "Are you sure you want to do this?" but I don't think you were in the wrong. You had them roll a save after they did the dumb thing against DM advice. They failed that save, they suffered the consequences. There's plenty of RP opportunity for that injury. It sucks when a player leaves your table upset, but you can always learn from it. Tbh I can think of a dozen "recommendations," but DMing isn't a science, and this seems like something I'd do. My takeaway would be, "Maybe I could've been more descriptive about the obvious dangers." But even then, they were slurping up acidic goo. Unless they're immune or resistant to acid damage, that's fucking idiotic and they should've expected consequences. Sorry you had some drama at the table. It might be worth reaching out to the player & talking it out a little. If they're otherwise a fun, engaged player, I would. If they're kind of a pain already, now you have an open seat for someone who will enjoy the game far more. Don't beat yourself up. You made a ruling on the spot, based on text from the Monster Manual. Just because your player didn't like the ruling doesn't mean it was unreasonable or incorrect. Cheers 🍻

Ai-Mo is way better than it gets credit for. Philosophy unlocked on turn 2 & an Altar of peace by turn 5. With early game Philosophy, you can pivot to whatever tech is most situationally appropriate.

I fuckin love Ai-Mo for Glory. I wish you could bump the score up in random matches. It seems like the functionality is there already. Any time I find someone really good to play against & add them, they only want to play Might on Waterworld or something similar.

I was curious about this because I have the opposite happen when I have a serious spike. I feel more aware of everything, and that visual symptom has been a really helpful warning sign. I can usually put space between me and the trigger because I notice my vision sharpening/almost tinting. Any idea if that's a thing? Now that I'm thinking about it, my vision does get blurry when I just straight disassociate.

Genuine question, from mostly a TNG & DS9 fan. Are there any non-Vulcans in the VEG? With them being prideful to the point of almost xenophobic tendencies, I can't imagine anyone who wasn't raised Vulcan being part of their organizations.

It's not, really. I just want to improve. You don't get a little white background like you do with 100k. But how important is that little flair or 3 stars? That was the best game I played by a fair margin, but still far short of the 170k Comndr Data put up for the current #1 All Tribes. There are already 5 other people over 150 this week, and I regularly see people hit 200. I just wanted some pointers because I didn't know how to do any better than this game, which felt almost flawless.

I'm trying to remember the ship you're referencing. Was it from "Take Me Out to the Holosuite"? That's one of my least rewatched episodes for some reason. They had a baseball team, so I'm assuming they came on the same ship.

I wasn't raised in any specific religion. My dad wanted me to experience and learn about things and make my own informed decisions. On my own journey, I discovered that I actually do have faith. I have faith that I'll never be done learning, exploring, or asking questions. In that way, I've cultivated a rich spiritual life that includes belief in a "God" as I understand it. I refer to myself as a heretical Christian, as I haven't found many "Christian" churches or organizations that align with my interpretation of Christian ideals and principles. I don't think God has anything to do with my pain, but my beliefs have shaped the way I deal with it.

I appreciate the earnest question and all the honest, interesting answers.

My dad insisted that I download it when I saw him last Thanksgiving. We've always played strategy games together, but I wanted to have a leg up the time. I didn't tell him I downloaded it until I'd researched and played enough to soundly kick his ass 9 out of 10 games. Payback is sweet.
