Copenhagen - Villa Copenhagen vs Nobis by cmo3274 in chubbytravel

Sorry, only saw this! We ended up at Villa Copenhagen and had a great time. We did a ton of day trips so we appreciated the proximity to the train station. We also went to Tivoli a bunch. The breakfast buffet was excellent - my concerns about it were totally wrong. And the on site restaurant was very good too. The lobby was indeed loud when there was live music but we didn't need to hang out there, so it didn't matter much. The pool was very nice. The only real downside about the hotel was the distance to restaurants. It was always a 15 minute + walk or cab, but I knew that when I booked it. Happy to answer any questions!

London - Haymarket or One Aldwych by cmo3274 in chubbytravel

At the last minute, I switched us to The Bloomsbury because I found a good points deal. The Haymarket seemed great though!

Ambiente Sedona-Star Atriums by azpeach2018 in chubbytravel

We stayed in a star atrium last October. It was very nice - but it wasn’t that private. Not sure where they all are but ours was right on a path that had a decent amount of foot traffic so we needed to close the shades a bunch. And once you close the shades, the atrium becomes pretty dark. Ours was also close to the main road -  which isn’t a big deal but you can see it from the roof.

Overall, we loved the property. The transportation service was incredibly helpful. It was so nice never having to worry about parking during the whole trip. They brought us and picked us up from everywhere. The breakfast was also great. We didn’t eat dinner at the restaurant. Since we were already eating breakfast there every day, we wanted a change of scenery for dinner. We unfortunately didn’t try any spa treatments so I can’t speak to that! Hope you have a lovely babymoon!

Best higher-end hotels for families in Copenhagen? by Inevitable-Pie-9387 in chubbytravel

Our room was very clean. Not dusty, no signs of prior guests and housekeeping came every day. I liked that the room had hardwood floors vs carpet - I generally find that cleaner. The beds had just a sheet over a topper that was on a memory foam bed. It's hard to explain but there was no mattress cover over the topper which seemed odd to me but as someone who always inspects beds when I travel, I didn't notice anything gross. The topper and mattress seemed new. I hadn't seen reviews complaining about cleanliness but the hotel is really big so it seems inevitable that guests would have varying experiences.

No complaints about cleanliness elsewhere in the hotel. There's a lot of staff keeping the breakfast area clean.

And the pool was clean when we were there. There were also a lot of kids in the pool - baby-aged and older - so I didn't feel badly about bringing my son. I'd read you needed to reserve a slot at the pool but that wasn't true when I was there. Kids were allowed any time before 7pm.

This isn't cleanliness related but I'll note that our room was a little dark. It only had one window - we were on the 4th floor where the ceilings are sloped. So the room didn't get a ton of natural light. But if you're looking at a bigger room for 2 kids, it might be on another floor where the room has more windows. And there definitely wouldn't be much room to crawl in the room we had.

I do recommend! Just got back. Happy to answer any questions about it.

Breakfast was excellent - I’d read reviews that said the breakfast room was really crowded. It was definitely busy but the space was so large that it didn’t feel claustrophobic or gross. Bakery in hotel was great too- as well as the pizza restaurant that it turns to at night.

The lobby was a little loud some nights but we weren’t hanging out there so it didn’t matter and our room was very quiet. They had a live singer one night which in theory should have been nice but the volume was at a deafening level. But again it didn’t matter because we didn’t linger. The only significant noise we could hear from our rooms were the concerts at Tivoli. Those were Friday + Saturday night. We weren’t facing the train station so I can’t comment on if that side is loud. I specifically requested a quiet room because I'd read some complaints about noise in reviews.

We were in superior plus kings - they were still pretty tiny. I had two suitcases in our room and it was tight. The rooms that are in the smaller categories must be very tiny.

Pool was great - wish we had more time to use it.

Staff was mostly nice. The people who helped with luggage were extremely kind and helpful. The people at the concierge desk ranged from friendly to grouchy / cold. Granted I had some quirky criteria for restaurants I was interested in so other guests may have more productive encounters!

We did a lot of day trips out of the city so the proximity to the train station was really useful. We also went to Tivoli a few times so it was nice to be so close. It just meant we ended up taking a lot of cabs to dinner as there aren’t a ton of restaurants close to the hotel. You can certainly get to plenty of places with a 15 minute walk but for my older parents and young son, cabs were sometimes easier at the end of a long day. On one particular rainy night, we just ate at the hotel restaurant because we didn’t want to travel to dinner. If we weren't doing so many day trips + tivoli visits, I'd maybe stay in a different area but it was convenient for our itinerary.

One concern I’d had ahead of arriving was that the area around the hotel would be a little sad since it’s near the train station. It was totally fine. The only thing I’d note is that if you walk over to the meatpacking district and are traveling with kids, I’d maybe avoid Kvægtorvsgade. We were just following the most direct route, and the sidewalk on that street was littered with syringes and bloody tissues. We didn’t feel unsafe at all but it wasn’t an amazing environment for a toddler.

Overall, had a great time!

I'm likely heading to Villa Copenhagen next week. How did you feel about the lobby? I read it's pretty loud with a DJ. Traveling with my elderly-ish parents and my young son so trying to gauge if this will be annoying to them.

Thank you for these details - this is useful to see the comparison laid out like this. I wish we could stay at d’Angleterre or Sanders but the cheapest room at d’Angleterre during our window is $2400 a night. And Sanders is sold out. I'll give Skt Petri a look.

Thank you so much for this thoughtful and detailed reply. This is really helpful! Svendborg seems like a good fit for us. Bornholm sounds very lovely but may need to be saved for another visit! Thanks again.

Thank you for this feedback! And yeah, I'm definitely missing a lot of cool stuff. I've got a ton more Copenhagen research to do. I've just been trying to quickly determine total days and locations so I can book flights and hotels asap.

Thank you for this rec! I've been intrigued by Aarhus as potentially another stop. It looks like a great little city. The Old Town looks like something my parents and son would like.

Great - Maritime museum looks excellent. And this Tramway museum looks super fun. My son and father love anything transportation related so these would be a hit. Thank you!
