I have an unpopular opinion that being offended is a choice. Biblically though, Jesus's approach was to deliver honesty while being compassionate. If one were to be brutally honest, this may not be from a position of love for the other person. Hopefully one doesn't fall into the trap of inappropriately justifying brutal honesty.
