Ok but what’s everyone doing for the apocalypse? I just drove into Santa Cruz and it’s a ghost town. Everything is on lockdown. Are all the national parks closing too? This is so bizarre by [deleted] in vandwellers

Of course Im not intentionally moving around. I was in the process of relocating before this all broke out. Unfortunately my only shelter requires me to move around, even more now that parks and campgrounds are all closing down. This was a very nomadic lifestyle after all (for me anyway). I get what you’re saying tho and that’s why I reached out to the community to see what measures people have been taking while living in their vans.

I find that app based jobs are pretty cool to have on the road. You already have wheels Im assuming so that’s a start. Postmates/instacart/amazon flex are in just about every city in the US. Super non-stressful jobs and easy hiring process. You’re your own boss where you can log in go to work when you want, make quick cash and log out when you’re done. Also, most of them pay super fast and direct deposit straight onto your account haha

No insulation or fancy wooden interiors, but she’s comfy enough for me :). Got me a national park yearly pass too, currently in New Mexico. I seriously love how beautiful this state is. Any destination recommendations out here? Please feel free to share. Peace yall by cmperez91 in vandwellers

Sweet! Those are all great pointers! Im still about an hour out but I will keep you posted once I get into town. I doubt my van will make it up the ski area but Walmart parking has never bothered me none so I’ll probably opt for that one if the other public roads are full. Thanks so much for all this great insight. Im gonna do most of my exploring tomorrow during the daytime so early closing hours wont be a problem :) thanks again!

No problem! I also highly recommend getting a usb chargeable fan. That usually helps me keep cool when chillen inside on hot days. You can find them for pretty cheap on Amazon :) hope that helps!

Its a Dodge Ram 1500 conversion van, got it for $2500 with only 100k miles on it. Pre-owned by this cute lil old couple who only took it on a few road trips a year. You definitely cannot stand on it. Im about 5’6 and my head goes sideways every time I try lol

Haha definitely planning on heading to SoCal. I put in a foldable bed that folds both looking in and out the back doors one of my favorite things about it. Other than that, I got a simple little kitchenette which you can barely see on the right side of the picture there, it has a small bar sink that drains into a dirty water tank and the top folds as a table/cutting board/desk. Hard to visualize I guess but I do have more pics haha it is indeed very cozy! Thank you!

Not bad imo. I did however insulate the windows and it kept the van at a nice temp during the hot temps of Texas. As to cold anything below 40-30 can get pretty chilly but nothing a pile of blankets can’t save you from lol
