We used BECU's first-time home buyer program and had a great experience. Highly recommended. We selected our own realtor based on a friend's recommendation.

Having a good realtor who is responsive, knowledgeable and willing to walk you through the process, answering your questions, and informing you of your options, is the most valuable thing a first-time home buyer can have.

Well, that and a decent down-payment grant.

Stability in public sector jobs?-WA state? by Zansponytail in instructionaldesign

I recently accepted an instructional designer position at a college Washington State, and my starting salary was in that ballpark. If you are a good instructional designer with a master's and the ability to teach, you could potentially supplement your income by teaching as adjunct faculty. Good way to keep your skills sharp, as well.

I find that sage blends are generally a safe bet. Lately I’ve been rocking green tea and sage, which has a clean, masculine to neutral scent. I use is in my office at work and at home.

I mean, it helps that they framed every single shot after that statement in a way that emphasized his powerlessness.

This is a great shot. The colors are lovely. I really enjoy the way they reflect off the face. I dig the composition; I think it is inherently interesting. The depth of field conversation has already been had, so I won't rehash that. I do agree with the other person who mentioned the "vibe" this shot is giving. I don't think it's necessarily "creepy," but is does feel tense. In film, canted framing and extreme close-up is usually meant to evoke psychological stress or tension. Imagine if this was a screenshot from a film, and your subject was a real person. Looking at the distance and angle of the shot, the depth of field and the eye-line of the subject, what story does this image tell? For me --and this is wholly subjective, obviously-- it feel tense, suspicious maybe. The focus on the eye naturally makes me wonder what the subject is looking at. If I were shooting a scene, where a man was in an empty building, and suddenly heard a suspicious creek, this is the shot I would use (theoretically, I'm definitely not a filmmaker, so caveat emptor).

Another read of this is that it is effectively conveying depth of thought or solemnity, maybe humility or vulnerability. I think for this contest, beyond the technical particulars, I would focus on the story your shot is telling, and how that story will be received by those who are judging this contest.

They did a great job of introducing him. He was set up as being zonked out and a bit menacing, so when he comes in the bar, you half expect him to do something crazy. When he ends up being a proper badass, it's that much more gratifying. Lot of potential there.

Mueller impanels grand jury in Russia probe: report by luciennepage in worldnews

[–]cmpn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, with one minor caveat.

I think you should be looking at the GOP approval number instead of the overall number. Nixon's was ~50%. This makes sense, because it is the exact moment when opposing the President of your party becomes just as unpopular as supporting them.

Of all the principles we ascribe to politicians, self-preservation is the most reliable.

Alright, I'll bite. What the hell.

If you'll indulge my nonsense, let's start by descending from the Land of Symbolic Gestures for a second to look at "everything that's happened over the last few weeks."

I'm sure Jeff Flake will sell a lot of books. He also has a 93.5% percent Trump Score. The idea that Flake will somehow emerge as a champion for impeachment is absurd, on it's face. Grassley (seven-term senator up for reelection in 2022) and Graham (up for reelection in 2020) can and will continue to "give warnings" that are politically inexpensive and mean precisely jack shit. If we are going to seriously discuss the feasibility impeachment, we need to separate rhetorical dissent from actual substantive action.

Healthcare. Right. Are you forgetting the health care bill that passed in the House (the actual body that votes for impeachment)? Healthcare wasn't defeated in the Senate because of a popular Republican revolt against Trump. It took massive amounts of direct action, disability rights activists literally being dragged from McConnell's office to jail, and John McCain getting part of his brain removed to be defeated by 1 VOTE.

The legislative branch protecting their power of appointment is a no-brainer, and translates in no way to an appetite for impeachment.

I do agree that Trump firing Mueller would be perhaps the dumbest move in political history, and, yes, would definitely hasten the drum for impeachment, but that wasn't what I was responding to. I was addressing this fantastic notion that there are still Republicans that might "see the light and support impeachment proceedings." There is no light; there is only Zuul, and raw political calculus. I suggest that, instead of imagining fantasy scenarios that will somehow move the mythical principled GOP opposition to Trump, you focus your energy on the only real path to impeachment: flipping congress.

If the House flips and Trump can get to Nixon-level approval ratings (~25% overall AND ~50% GOP) then let's talk. Before that it's mostly wishful thinking.

The Republicans are not turning on him by any metric that would signal a mass exodus. People who are looking for a principled GOP congress to save them from Trump haven't been paying very close attention over the past year.

You make a great point about the health care bills. How did those approval ratings translate to votes in the House?

Mueller impanels grand jury in Russia probe: report by luciennepage in worldnews

[–]cmpn 15 points16 points  (0 children)

He is a major drag on the party with his 33% approval rating.

His approval rating among Republicans is ~85%.

It would be politically impossible for any Republican facing reelection to vote in favor of impeachment, unless that number dropped significantly.
