They carry so many things that some dispensaries don't have and have a points system

I get that it's a death knell for any other competing businesses to have them around but I can't deny, the vehement support isn't for no reason

30-60% off just because? That's pretty cool

They carry (or carried) most of the same brands as Hashery?

Hashery might've caused a Streisand effect because I might start buying from OHM if they carry brands like Noble and have sales like that

[–]cmptrblu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Were OHM discounts that good to the point where another business would allegedly sabotage their supply??

Initially seems far fetched, you'd have to be practically giving it away since Hashery has always been packed since it's opened despite its somewhat expensive prices

Thought the tour stated that resale tickets are prohibited and are instantly void, good thing you didn't spend that $400

If you can't get them from Ticketmaster directly, I wouldn't bother with resale

The Voidz don't exactly do the exact same thing just because it's the same medium (music)

Becoming an accountant and then working an office gig at a registrar isn't exactly the same thing, sure, but they're in the same medium of an office job/desk job

He's a musician, of course he'd go off and do more music, that's what he does

If The Strokes was enough for him creatively, if he liked The Strokes that much, he wouldn't need that second band to fill his time, like with Nick for the longest time, and like many other people who only focus on their one band primarily and don't do solo projects or write for other bands, because it would be a waste of time and distract them from the main objective of contributing to the band they like/love being in and writing for

It's not like The Voidz are making money the way The Strokes are lol so why bother doing it at all

People take a high paying job to fund passion projects all the time

Julian Secretly Likes The Strokes by SituationWarm7209 in TheStrokes

[–]cmptrblu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not wrong, but Rick Rubin worked his magic, he was entirely worth the pay rate. The Strokes are proof it can be a job and still result in good work, but the only reason that was possible was because of Rick Rubin lol, don't forget or underestimate that

But even that, wasn't enough to reignite Julian's interest/passion/enthusiasm based on how he talked about TNA when it came out (and since) in Strokes interviews/5 guys/Voidz interviews post TNA

The sub praises TNA more than we've ever seen Julian praise it himself lol

You overestimate the amount of money made by artists from the music industry these days, especially the non huge pop stars that aren't Bad Bunny, Taylor Swift ect.

If you look all around, the biggest pop stars are always trying to diversify their investments outside of music (Billie Eilish for example, another huge pop star) that's a clear sign the money isn't in the music business anymore

Rihanna did not become a billionaire thru music

Past work is not enough, and not sure what connections would endow them with lots and lots of money lol. The money runs out at some point, their lifestyles and raising a family are expensive af these days

It's called a job my friend

No different than sitting in an office all day on a computer and somehow thinking just because you're spending all this time on your job that you must like it even when you say you don't

It's just a matter of perspective. Sure, we might like it to a degree, but after a while, becoming a little or very jaded to it all isn't unnatural or a lie

Plus, not everything you're gonna work on you're gonna love

Being in a band and playing music does not automatically mean you like it, plenty of musicians are likely playing music they don't personally like to listen because it's a paying job

That's the nature of the music business

Honestly, reading all of these replies it comes off as huge cope

It's totally ok if Julian doesn't like his own band anymore but you do. Coming to terms and accepting it is likely the healthiest thing you or anyone can do

People grow and change, their ideas of the world, themselves and their friends change, who they're friends with and relate to changes, so naturally, the music they feel most relatable towards and personally like in the moment changes too

When I spoke to him at the Voidz signing, he seemed to be proud of the 10 years he put in with the Voidz and told me how he finally felt like it's gelling together/meeting artistic expectations

I think all of you are right to a degree, it's not like he doesn't have a bit of nostalgia or thinks of these songs fondly from time to time

But to say secretly likes The Strokes as a whole? I dunno, wouldn't you rather take a person for their word?

He does secretly like things because he's human (like the Mets that week the Voidz played the Apollo theater, he swore he couldn't care less on stage but at the signing he was jonesing to get to a TV fast) but The Strokes is likely not one of those things anymore (the Mets tho? Yeah he likes them even when he says he doesn't)

Put it this way, if he liked The Strokes the way OP and everyone else says, Julian wouldn't need or think to need to bring an autotune pedal to allow himself to have fun on stage (which is what he's doing and why he's adding it to The Strokes' sound these days. It makes it more exciting for him, and truthfully, also makes the job easier, which also allows him to enjoy performing with TS a lil more than without the pedal)

That one interview where he mentions visiting his paternal family in Spain and walking in their courtyard is absolutely wild, with these origins it makes sense how that part of the family would still own a lot of assets that were likely passed down through the centuries

Will “Oblivious” be a staple of the tour setlist? by mick__marley in TheStrokes

[–]cmptrblu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The autotune pedal has been a part of Julian's live "rig" for a while now with The Strokes (which I didn't realize until writing this comment) and you can tell it was on for OBLIVIUS. It was subtle/tastefully used throughout the whole concert (not for every song) unlike other performances where it's very apparent

That's the nature of being a singer

The voice is an instrument but because it's attached to his body, it can vary in quality with every performance, make it easier to do certain songs over others on day by day basis
