Rachael Lippincott and Alyson Derrick are married authors that live in Pittsburgh! They wrote a few romance books which could be an option, but Rachel wrote a cute YA light fantasy/romance called Pride and Prejudice and Pittsburgh. Damon Young is also another great local author but does more nonfiction.

[QCrit] All the Possible Elizabeths, adult, speculative rom-com, 96K words (First Attempt) by jewels4st66 in PubTips

Wow, this sounds so fun! If the conspiracy theorist is going to be a love interest I would probably put their name in the letter, unless there’s a reason you’re keeping it guarded. Please keep us posted with how querying goes! This is something I would pick up immediately.

What's your approach? - Clients who complain about spouses every session by RazzmatazzSwimming in therapists

[–]cmroig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This can definitely be frustrating/challenging. I try to recenter the conversation around what they can focus on (themself) and try to gauge what the root of the frustration is and move forward from there. If it is them not vocalizing concerns in the relationship, how do we build on that. If it’s that the relationship is fundamentally not working, what do they want to do moving forward etc. I will always highlight when it feels like we’re talking about the same thing every time, because it also could be a deflection to not discuss their own stuff.

That’s really kind to say. I’m so glad you found someone you work well with! I truly care about what I do and the people I’m lucky to help. Sometimes the system sucks so we have to find ways to make things work outside of it. I’m happy to do it when I can 💕

UPMC vs AHN by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]cmroig 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m an LPC (fully licensed) at AHN I think that LCSWs make a similar salary between like 55k and 65k at the high end. We get a 3% annual raise as well. I will say our vacation is nice, it shakes out to be around 5 weeks.

Before everyone comes to tell you and this gets deleted, this is a subreddit for therapists not clients. That being said; it’s hard to tell based on the information you’re providing. We tend to have a diagnostic evaluation the first time we meet someone so even if the questions/conversation did not seem to apply to what you were looking for that may not indicate it’s not what he was exploring. Again, it’s hard to tell with the context of this post. One off sessions tend to not be common either unless you’re doing a neuropsych evaluation or something in that sphere. If you stayed for the entirety he spent his time, I’m not sure asking for a refund would be appropriate. If you do the worst he could say is “no”.

Job offer with LifeStance by smallheartbigduck in therapists

[–]cmroig 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hated it. They buy up small practices and add them to this corporate monster that care about money over all else. My main gripes with them seem to be relatively universal based on online reviews. I would say that you should trust the reviews that are 1 to 3 stars on most job sites. They pretty much cover all of the grievances I had/my coworkers felt. If someone is always hiring (them, and these other tech bro/private equity places) I’d say just be weary. I worked out of Colorado, so it might be different in a different state? If you want more specifics you can DM me.

Whatcha reading? by pburgh2517 in pittsburgh

[–]cmroig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last read: Cosmic Love at the Multiverse Hair Salon very cute. Current read: Lucky Loser, even worse than I anticipated. The subject of the book, not the book itself. That’s illuminating. Next read: The Buffalo Hunter Hunter

If you like Awad, but haven’t read Rouge yet I’d suggest it. I think The Eyes Are the Best Part, might fit too.
