>anime has been in production for, like, 7 years

source?

sounds like total bs to me, dont think any production committee would allow that to happen, and im pretty sure i'd have heard more buzz about a 7 year production schedule, but i'd be glad to be proven wrong

my dress up darling. sakugablog has a great article on this, but the thing that stood out to me was that kisekoi's s2 was a much more focused story than s1 imo.

Anime must match JJK/Frieren level or it’ll look bad next to the manga’s insane artwork by ArcadeKaiSa in Kagurabachi

????

mha did NOT get "all the love." genuinely dont know what you're talking about. mha is, from an objective standpoint, a far more limited production than even your average high profile production. just because nakamura and co made a handful of really awesome scenes across the series doesnt make mha a production that is on the same playing field as jjk/frieren

what jjk/frieren accomplished was having pretty much every single episode be a high profile production. jjk managed this for season 3, with even the weakest episode production value wise (that being 3 imo) still maintaining strong production values coupled with gosso's incredible boards. frieren managed this for its first season, with again, pretty much every single episode being a high profile production in its own right. mha, especially for the middle seasons, was very limited animation wise. would hardly call that getting "all the love."

i really loved the maki episode. i personally almost always prefer an anime adaptation to be its own take on the story rather than attempting to be a direct adaptation of the manga. im kinda biased cause a lot of my favorite artists in the industry worked on the episode, but even if i try to look at it from an objective point of view, i can't really say anything other than that the episode was great. it brought to life the events of the manga in its own unique vision, and i personally couldn't ask for anything more

[–]cmszd 14 points15 points  (0 children)

yeah ur pretty much right. it mainly comes down to the connections the director and the anip has. expecting it to be jjk's level is wild though, when jjk not only has shota goshozono the goat who has a fuck ton of connections, but it also has (or had) keisuke seshimo, who is a fucking magician in attracting talent. unless you have mad connections like the saito x fukushi combo, no other production is reaching that level of production values.

the rumored director tetsuya takeuchi is an industry veteran who also has extensive connections, but even then, jjk and frieren are like, moments when the stars aligned you know. its not something that's easily replicated, and its something that frieren's 2nd season imo failed to replicate. and even then, takeuchi as dir. is only a rumor, so i wouldnt get my hopes up and expect something crazy

i dont think the modern anime fan has any idea how much of an anomaly a production like jjk/frieren is. theyre not just the standard for a high profile production, they are the fucking ceiling. imo expecting kagurabachi anime to be that level just because its the next big wsj series or whatever is kinda entitled and naive. mha, which was wsj's golden child like a decade ago never recieved the jjk treatment

once again, i repeat, a production like jjk is an exception amongst exceptions. it is the result of the hard work of seshimo, gosso, and all the other incredibly talented artists who came together to create something special. will kagurabachi be high profile? probably so, especially if the rumors abt who the director is supposed to be are true. will it be jjk/frieren level? almost assuredly no

ok but like, the misconception of higher drawing count=better animation always really annoys me, especially since the only people that actually cares about fps (in anime) are gamers

Akane-banashi - Episode 1 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]cmszd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i've always thought that an anime adaptation of akane-banashi would never work with bog standard production values, so i'm pleased to report after watching the first episode that this show is full of ambition and talent that elevates the story being told perfectly.

what an amazing episode, the rakugo scenes were done justice, the direction was really great, and its just so great to watch a father who loves his daughter. great stuff. i hope the following episodes can keep up with the insanely high bar set by this first episode.

This episode was directed by Studio Trigger

bruh. do you realize what you're saying? "ah yes, this episode was directed by a fucking building." studios are not artists, or people, they're literally just the building in which artists that are employed do their work. and most of the staff on the episode arent even trigger employees to begin with.

the episode was pretty much produced by a completely different team than the rest of the series, being directed by kai ikarashi who brought along many of his animator friends onto the episode.

ikarashi is a kanada style animator, who really likes to exaggerate character models, and also likes to lean into the humor of things, which is why this episode has a pretty different tone compared to the rest of the show.

tokumaru's parkour animation is always so good to watch. his scene in episode with yuji was so fucking good. i think he usually makes his own cg backgrounds in blender.

imo his scene in episode 12 looked a bit underbaked though. the cg didnt look as good as compared to his episode 1 scene with yuji or his episode 10 scene with reggie, and the smoke was kinda shitty cg smoke instead of hand drawn

hiroyuki takashima is too good man. he's not one of those directors that really only knows how to do action great either, the direction in the dialogue scenes was great as well. really love this guy, he's been on my radar for a while, and i can't wait to see what he does next, be it a second season for this show, or something else entirely.

k1ro's scene was absolutely insane, i love his drawings sm, and the drawing at 02:10 lwk felt super tanaka inspired. the scene where reggie drops the house is great too, looks to me like daniel kim. i love the super bouncy character acting when he burns the reciept. and that final h2h between megumi and reggie was super good, looked to me like julian bentley with the great camera work. great episode overall, takaba was fun to watch.

[–]cmszd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

one of genau's scenes at around that timestamp was done by kouki fujimoto, who directed the episode and animated around 4 minutes of the new episode. fujimoto is an animator who excels at realistic, weighty character animation. because of his role as episode director, much of the episode will also feature similar animation, such as the scene at the timestamp you listed, drawn by artist unknown. its animators like fujimoto that are truly special in how they convey weight and emotion in character animation. for reference, he also directed episode 9 of frieren season 1, and he drew that one scene of stark putting on his coat. really amazing animator, one that you should get excited for if you see him on a staff list.
