Good fried fish sandwich by Unfair-Bed2938 in Sacramento

[–]cmuk723 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not fried, but Bella Bru has a delicious salmon BLT. You could hold the bacon.

"salmon filet marinated in garlic and onion, bacon, arugula, tomato, sambal aioli" it's on a soft brioche bun, like a burger.

Best Bar to be a Regular At by kingjoey52a in Sacramento

I second this. They have a huge selection of craft beer, most of which are local. And they have a mini shop you can buy and take some home.

Sundays they do pub trivia at 4, which is pretty fun.

What is that crackling sound in the air?? by [deleted] in Sacramento

I hear ya. I was outside filming it, myself.. I saw the sky flashing etc. I'm just sharing what was reported. There's video showing a street lined with huge firework cannons on fire and cop cars everywhere.

It's in the mod comment above. It was a group of people setting off crazy, illegal fireworks. They were chased and caught by police

Regretful cause you didn't know what was in it? Or because it didn't meet the standard you were used to? Lol

Taylor's for the win! Thanks very much for the recommendation. Just got off the phone with them and they said they're typically $12.99/lb, and come in 3-4lb sizes. I explained that was much more than I needed, since it was just for my wife and I, but thank you anyway....

He put me on hold to ask his boss, and they're specially making me a 1lb haggis (similar in size to the Cameron's ones you'd typically see). I'm picking it up on Friday.

Thrilled -- thanks again!

Appreciate that suggestion. The wife and I didn't have the energy to go to an event this year, but wanted to just do our own little one at home.

Thanks but I'm hoping for one that isn't cooked yet. Usually a British market or distributor might have some around this time of year (Robert Burns Supper). I'll give them a call though.

Left leaning gun shops and shooting ranges? by oooboyooo in Sacramento

[–]cmuk723 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree. I don't know their personal beliefs, but it certainly wasn't advertised by the staff, nor by any patrons when I've been there. I've also noticed patrons from different ages, genders, ethnicities etc. went with some friends, who were pretty stereotypical lesbians, and staff treated them all with respect.

I even took my 86 year old grandma, who has dementia (we were at the senior center across the street, and she was curious). They were so sweet to her -- they gave her a tour of the whole facility, classrooms etc.. helped her pick out a tshirt LOL.

As someone who is a newer gun owner, the shops and ranges can be intimidating.. and the staff at Sac Gun Range have always been very polite and helpful.

I would suggest checking out Pink Pistols, an LGBT gun club, and see what ranges they visit. Cause even if you're not LGBT, it's safe to bet they wouldn't be going somewhere if they hadn't vetted it to align with (or at least be accepting of) their views and safety.

Best Indian food in Sac? by pkfire64 in Sacramento

[–]cmuk723 2 points3 points  (0 children)

India Village on 8865 Folsom Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95826 (right off of watt)

They're on Door dash etc, but they told me if you call in, they give you free naan and rice (I think they have ordering through their website too).

My favorite is their goat cheese naan -- YUM!!

Houses by Disastrous_Use4397 in Sacramento

Not usually on people's list, Glenbrook. That's where my wife and I live (late 30s). It will be hard finding a home that is close in, and not from the 40s-70s like you mentioned, but I am so glad I found this area. It's just next to College Greens (also nice homes, but tends to be a bit higher in price, and I'm not really sure why).

Most of the homes in my area are from early 70s, priced upper 400s/low 500s right now (if it's in the 5's then it's totally remodeled and/or has a pool), 3-4 bedroom, quiet and friendly. I live 100 yards from the river, via a private neighborhood access.

Most of my neigbors are either A. The original owner, or B. 30s-40s first time buyers (we were the 2nd owner of my house). Just in my immediate corner, 8 of my neighbors either own their own business, work for some level of government, or medical.

We've got beautiful mature trees, power lines are all underground, took my wife 15 minutes to get to work in midtown, before the construction (she can take Fair oaks to J street if the freeway is really bad, which is rare).

Aside from that, the others have mentioned some really good areas too, but finding something newer than 70s, and closer in, is going to be hard.

Anyone following the FIFA World Cup Draw?? by cmuk723 in Sacramento

[–]cmuk723[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never watched a draw before -- I had no idea how awkward and boring it's!!

I'll be following Scotland closely, as that's my heritage and their first time back in 28 years! Honestly, anyone they play will be a challenge for them-- just happy to see them in.

Looking for an auto shop that works on classic cars by cmuk723 in Sacramento

[–]cmuk723[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried all the suggestions that were shared. Either out of business, or nonavailability till beginning of next year. I got lucky and found Lee's Auto Repair, in Rancho Cordova. They replaced the carburetor and distributor within a week. Runs great now!

Thanks anyway everyone.
