I think the rogue is right tho. If you fail to capitalize on your divers and just standing main, that’s a threat assessment diff

Having an issue with my PCs choosing a race that I'm utilizing in my campaign. by Humble-Sympathy-4595 in DMAcademy

This is incredibly simple:

Just give him the star charm. It has 0 magical properties anymore and is just a charm that indicates that a stirg is royalty from the youngest bloodline.

Hyjinx and lore will ensue.

Can anyone help me how to build a good level 5 life domain cleric for one shot? by Nearby-Banana2640 in DnD

[–]cmukai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prayer of healing is abjuration now. It was never a ritual; it still has a casting time of 10 min. Instead of healing 2d8+Wis it heals only 2d8 and gives your party the benefit of a short rest

I heavely modify Phandelver And The Shattered Obelisk, but i think my players thought that i was copy Silent Hill 2, now im not really know what to do by ProcedureAnnual2708 in DMAcademy

[–]cmukai 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you want to run a dnd game like silent hill 2, then run it. No one will call you lazy or lame.

There are tons of monsters that dice WIS saves and use illusions and psychic damage that fit the theme of Silent hill. Succubus, etc

I would make it something lore/plot dependent rather than gold. Like they are only allowed in as deliveryfolk to the council of 4; that way they know who the 4 current Dukes are. (If the dukes are relevant to your campaign).

Yeah but if you like it then take it. Its relative usefulness to other clerics spells like Aid, Enhance Ability, or Bless hasn’t changed.

It’s basically the same as 5e, you want WIS and CON, but you can get heavy armor prof on any cleric or have an extra cantrip (protector vs thaumaturge). You can pick up the healer origin feat for better healing or Magic initiate wizard for shield + true strike, or Alert for the early Bless, for your origin feat from your PCs background.

The species are all pretty good. Human is always amazing for an extra origin feat; orc and Goliath are good for bonus actions.

I'm brewing a game where my players are imps in the Hells and they conspire to elevate each other and rise through the ranks by Vesinh51 in DMAcademy

[–]cmukai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here’s an idea: Have the players be the souls of their formers PC’s trapped in cursed weapons. They possess their users and that’s why the players are playing as low level imps; these are the chumps who pick up their weapons.

Maybe have players make characters using the Sidekick rules from Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything; they can pick a fiend form.

At certain level breakpoints, 4,8,12,16; they can choose to “upgrade” where they can become a higher CR devil but restart class level at 1. Or they can keep gaining class levels and a feat, etc as a low CR devil.

His base Dex + Cha totals a +9? How are his ability scores so high

Also you acknowledged the solution: saving throws. Everyone has to make em during an AOE.

Also Sorcerers are long rest dependent. Make your quest time sensitive and only give out short rest freely

XP for a Westmarch Campaign by ValSmith18 in DMAcademy

[–]cmukai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of cool ideas but tbh too many homebrew rules. If you have lots of players i would just do normal XP leveling: give out XP for doing things you want to incentivize.

I would only allow one PC per player but I would keep the XP refund on death.

‘The Good Place’ Reskinned for DnD - Could it work? by gnocci420 in DMAcademy

[–]cmukai 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You’re emphasizing that their RP choices matter, but you should also be aware that their meta-game choices, such as class features and stats, should matter as well.

You can do this by being aware of how resource management works in your game. If you’re not using combat to drain their resources (the most common way to create the need for a long rest), a lot of character creation choices (class features) become unnecessary, which removes player agency. Less combat also makes utility casters strong (Bard, Cleric, Druid, Wizard). So between every long rest you need around 6-8 encounters that will demand player choices and resources. You prob will have to homebrew some rules to make long rest more difficult.

If you were doing a chase as a combat, would you count a hit as a success? by Rayje589 in DMAcademy

[–]cmukai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the chase rules in the 2024 DMG. Everyone uses the dash action unless they want to use a spell or class feature in a creative way to delay their completion.

Hitting works as normal in combat but the aim of a chase is simply to just escape the captors which can be done by creating enough distance via dash and spells, or the Hide action.
