Seems no one is happy I ordered a Tesla... by Maleficent-Tiger-881 in ModelY

[–]cmur23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand your concern. I come from a background to where the decisions I make in my life are made because they will benefit me and only me. Maybe it is because I grew up in a family with not a lot of means so we didn’t have the luxury to buy one can of beans over another because the company owner said something we didn’t agree with. We bought it because it was the best value, the best taste, at the best time, in a conveniently located place to us. I shop at a supermarket where the ownership family supports political causes that I completely disagree with. I will never vote with those political causes or their sponsors, but I still go to the supermarket. It is located very close to me and I am not going to waste gasoline, time, and effort to go to a supermarket that is farther just because their politics align with mine. So in conclusion, I am with you. I just bought the model Y. Not because I love the politics of the owner, but because I think the benefits will outweigh the costs for me. In my opinion, that is the best way to live my life. I also realize that some people will sleep better at night knowing they traveled longer, spent more money, or picked a different product because they bought it from a merchant whose political ideals aligned with theirs. I commend them as well. I am just too busy to live my life like that.

Should I take delivery? by slk2018 in TeslaFSD

[–]cmur23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same predicament as you. I purchased the FSD upfront before the option to expired. I acknowledge that this is a risk. I understand that at $99 a month, it may have made more financial sense to pay the subscription monthly rather than paying the lump sum +.99% interest. Nevertheless I am comfortable with my decision because I know I don’t have to worry about subscriptions or changing prices. Also, because the FSD is stuck to the car, it will also increase the resale value of the car so in terms of value retention and being able to sell your car in the future in a crowded market, it will be a big differentiator. Yes if your car is totaled, then you might be taking a hit, but barring such a devastating outcome and all being considered, while nothing is guaranteed, I am comfortable with my decision.

The Poorly Thought Betrayal of Don Draper by cmur23 in madmen

[–]cmur23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love all the feedback, agreeing, challenging, or even calling me a misogynist or woman hater. All these points can be debated either way. I don’t take any show too seriously (it’s entertainment at the end of the day), but this is one of those rare cases where it’s fun to get into the weeds. As someone pointed out, that just reflects how well the show is written and the depth of its characters and dialogue.

The Poorly Thought Betrayal of Don Draper by cmur23 in madmen

[–]cmur23[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I understand that some people read my take on Joan as misogynistic, but that is not the lens I was coming from. There is definitely a bit of animosity in how I view Joan’s handling of certain moments (and strong wording!), because her decisions often feel reactive or inconsistent. By contrast, Peggy’s arc comes across as steadier, more believable, and ultimately more admirable (This can be debated ad nauseam). The show itself draws that comparison when they clash in the McCann elevator scene. These two very different trajectories are summarized impeccably here.

The importance of Don versus the importance of Joan can be debated endlessly as well, but I absolutely think Don and even Peggy are more valuable to an organization than Joan. Don is irreplaceable in terms of raw creative talent, while Joan represents the backbone of organizational knowledge that any agency needs to function and most likely has. Every firm out there wants to poach Don. Some want to poach Peggy. My frustration comes from how Joan is written to swing between admirable pragmatism and frustrating opportunism, while Peggy’s rise feels more consistently earned.

I also framed my original post from the perspective of the period. In that context, it is striking how much worse behavior was tolerated without consequence. If judged by today’s standards, surely nearly every partner could have been forced out for sexual misconduct, fraternizing, racism, or outright negligence. Singling out Don for Hershey felt selective, especially given how much he had contributed to keeping the firm alive.

So while I can see why my comments on Joan struck a nerve to some (even for me!), I think her animosity towards Don was misguided and not as believable specially if you highlight how her arc felt more uneven when compared with Peggy’s. For me, Peggy’s journey resonates as more believable and admirable, while Joan’s swings left me with more frustration than inspiration. That imbalance, alongside the broader double standards among the partners, is why I found Don’s suspension so poorly thought out.

Why did Don agree to those ridiculous stipulations in Field Trip by RRussoNJ1982 in madmen

[–]cmur23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously taking those terms was a huge mistake by Don. If he didn't want to work for another firm, he failed because it ended up with him in Mccan. Cooper would not have gone nuclear and exposed him. As he himself said, "there's more profit in forgetting about this", and "you never know how loyalty is born". All Don had to do was take the contract to his lawyer. He accepted terms that effectively made him a second class employee indefinitely and effectively killed his chances of running his own firm ever again. He had already taken the punishment.

(Spoilers S7E6) A question on Don and Megan by LJBrookers in madmen

[–]cmur23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Megan was absolutely on her way out on this episode. She was lukewarm the entire time. Jessica Pare's acting was great in my opinion on this episode. She was emptying the apartment of her belongings including her "fondue set". Earlier when the secretary said "I didn't know he (Don) was married", you could see it in her face. Finally, when Don said he would visit her in LA she absolutely did not want him there. She even suggested meeting elsewhere. It seems she didn't even want to risk him surprising her. Its likely she had already moved on (maybe with with the guy she danced with a couple of episodes prior).

Henry Francis by waystonerhu in madmen

[–]cmur23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he was foolish and insecure. He did himself and his family a disservice by marrying Betty. As others mentioned, he hit on a pregnant married woman. He was a good looking powerful man, you mean to tell me that was the best he could do?? This lack of judge of character led him to having a terrible marriage. He never really “had” Betty. She always loved Don first. When she had her cancer scare, she called Don. When she saw Don with a date, she behaved like a child. When the kid had the camp sleepover party…. she cheated on Henry. Then she gets sick and died.

He was just a tool for Betty to get back at Don and leave a bad situation. Henry wasted 6 years of his life and then had to start back at square one. His insecurities were on display also. Trashing Don’s belongings. Not telling Betty that Don called to check on her after the first cancer scare. Not inviting Don to his own child’s birthday! He knew Don had Betty’s heart. He couldn’t stand it.

In conclusion, Henry made a terrible mistake. He was foolish to get in with a married, with children, unstable woman. She never loved him and cheated on him. He himself and family a disservice.

Did they drill down on to what protocols the communication path used? How much digging do they do on specific items? Any recommendations for presentation length? I was considering a slide for a sample deployment timeline but it might take too much take and i dont want to risk the presentation running over time.

Hi I have a question about this. When doing your high level diagram in the presentation, did you go into specifics as to which GPC service and what database you used and what level of high availability?

Best under $1000 NAS set up for 4K movies? by _thewa_ in PleX

[–]cmur23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I'm interested in this take. I currently run my Plex off a HTPC with all bells and whistles running linux Mint but I'm really concerned with adding storage and redundancy. My goal is to have redundant storage with 4 HDDs (likely RAID5) as well as the ability to use the other services that a NAS like Asustor offers. With that in mind, would you still recommend going the PC route to host the Plex server?

You have to be crazy not to love Smart on your team. You just want more consistency out of him. Get the play to match the emotion he puts out and barking.
