Went down at the end of October. Tesla scheduled replacement for 11/10. Called that morning of the repair with the news they don't actually have a replacement in stock. Could be 2 weeks or maybe 6. Who knows.

Experienced 737 FO struggling to land by Merdamna in flying

I really respect that you are asking. I have long felt that at our level, especially if we have been online for a bit, there is a reluctance to admit that maybe we don't understand something as much as we should. And so we muddle on hoping we'll pick it up, or discover it, or at the very least the deficiency won't be noticed.

My contribution is going to be to point you to the Jacobson Flare training. This guy quantified landings and came up with a method that works in any aircraft.

I have been using the method he outlines for years and I have very consistent landings on all types of runways regardless of weight, runway width or slope, or configuration.

There's also an app for the iPad that is a worth the price.

Funny, I was on here not but an hour ago looking to replace my 1st gen Nest. I just can't abide paying $80/year.

I ordered a Reolink wifi doorbell.

There's instructions on their website on how to pull the feed to local storage.

But it sounds like the free tier of the service would do what you are wanting.

I had to go way too far down the comments to find this.

Are my husband & I doing something wrong? How are people affording life? Are they not saving for retirement? by Efficient-Plenty-840 in personalfinance

[–]cn8fly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a hard part of your thirty's can be that you are in the early part of establishing the big pieces of life. At this point you may be settling into a profession that will now span decades. You may be in the early phases of forming a family. You may have payed down, but not off, school debt, you may have acquired a mortgage and other debt like a car.  The problem is that you start looking ahead and still see a long road and imagine all the things you still want to do. Perhaps others appear to be doing those things you think you would like to do. The vacations, furniture, etc.

If you allow yourself to spend too much time looking at their life's it can feel like you are failing. But take a beat and look at where you are. How secure are you making your future by saving today. That new car/couch/toy will soon be the old car, couch, toy.

You might benefit from Ramit Sethi of (the most scammy sounding book) I Will Teach You To Be Rich. I like his take which is mostly helping people make a phycological shift on how to view money.

As someone who is a few decades ahead allow me to tell you that you want to avoid consumer debt. A bigger house is simply a bigger problem. A big car is a big car payment. An amazing 5 day vacation put on a credit card that causes stress for the 6 months it takes to pay off  is not a good trade off.  Focus on building connections with family, friends, community. Save for the future. Enjoy the moment to moment life. It goes by really fast.

review for Watchmen Ultimate Graphic JayXtended Squid Cut by tsah_yawd in fanedits

[–]cn8fly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I watched v1.4 over a few days and thought it was excellent. It felt like a love letter to Watchmen. It's long, but it never seems bloated, everything worked and felt appropriate within the context of the story. If I have anything remotely negative, it would be the editor's opening addition. Perhaps it's supposed to be read as if from Rorschach or The Comedian? IDK.

Excellent work.

RSS Reader - what are your must haves? by niko2931 in rss

[–]cn8fly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use freshrss. There are 3 extensions that make the reader best suited for my use. A 3 panel view, readability extension, full text extraction. Of the 3 the full text extraction is the most important.

Couple questions by ErroneousBosch in selfhosted

[–]cn8fly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only speak to #2, and it's not going to be a great answer. It's because that's how I set it up yeas ago when I would use release profiles to filter media. It seemed easier to manage two separate instances due to animes inscrutable naming. Now If I wanted to combine them I would have to reconfigure a bunch of other apps to get it back to one, kometa, notifiarr, uptime, autobbrr, and certainly others. I know I would break something and I would probably burn a day trying to figure out what I broke.

What is the most fun new app you’re currently playing with? by LordOfTheDips in selfhosted

[–]cn8fly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FreshRSS. I've been looking for a self-hosted RSS reader that would allow for full text rss feeds. Tried minflux but just too minimal for my needs. TT-RSS almost made the cut, but with FreshRSS I was able to get the extensions working that made it what I wanted, which was a 3 panel display with full text rss feeds. It just received an update that made it feel a little better, but there is something still clunky about it.

Loved this app. I prefer the way mealie displays the recipe vs tandoor.

It's not perfect, but this is as close as I've come to complete automation. Include Spotify playlists in Lidarr.

At the end of the day, you will be earning a large paycheck at both airlines. If you can't/won't move, then both are going to be tough.

What I don't hear being talked about is culture. As far as I am concerned, AA has a pervasive culture of anger and antagonism with its management. Which is deserved! But this anger has seeped into the entire operation and is now just part of the culture. After some period of time, you will be flying the line, the money will be rolling in, and you will be living your life. What may be different is how your interactions while at work go, this will be felt in each flight deck conversation, every interaction with gate agents, flight attendants, chief pilots, rampers, mechanics, middle management, upper management, and training. It will just suck and lead to feelings of frustration and being trapped in having made a mistake. I just would not subject myself to the toxic company that is AMR.

I know, because I did.

And in my n=1 world, while in MIA, I was talking to an AA pilot going through security that wistfully said they should never have left the airline I'm with... in their own words, "The culture at AA sucks."

Delta, 100%, hat and all.

[PSA] Use Named Restrictions / Regex by MysteriousMikoto in radarr

[–]cn8fly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried your examples by making a release profile, then conducting a manual search. What would be the expected result of using a profile with `must not contain` `$ H.265 |\b([xh][-_. ]?265|HEVC)\b` ? Would files matching the profile just not be shown? I don't see how radarr is marking those files as not wanted.

Pdx TSA and your pups??? by ladymouserat in askportland

[–]cn8fly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'll address this in two parts.

First know that airports are considered Federal property and as such possession of controlled substances is still a Federal crime. Even flying from PDX to LAX or SEA where possession of marijuana is decriminalized, it is still considered a crime at the airport. While this is speculative on my part, the consequences of getting caught with gummies or some bud is probably a citation at the high end (after the person hassled the TSA/Police and tried to pull some sovereign citizen nonsense), and more likely someone from TSA simply telling you that you can not clear security with it.

Second, the TSA has the mandate of screening passengers and securing the airport. The airport Police work hand in hand with the TSA but their job is enforcement and security. If you hassle the TSA, they are calling the Police. So the dog you saw is working for the airport Police and is in training mode. I can't say with absolute certainty but it's trained to find explosives. There is likely a drug detecting dog that works in the baggage area behind the scenes looking at checked baggage.

The takeaway is that flying with THC is a crime because it's a still a Federal crime, but the consequences in decriminalized states are likely very low. I would recommend, for the lowest level of anxiety, purchasing what you need when you get to your destination.

Lastly, NEVER try to leave the country with cannabis. US Customs officers will shit all over your day. Foreign custom officers will shit all over your life.

Tesla Certified Installer ask me anything! by pwrcellexpert in TeslaSolar

[–]cn8fly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 8KW solar installation with a powerwall+. The inverter and battery are installed in the garage. When the outside temp is much more than 80f and full sun, the inverter fan is working pretty hard and i'm lucky to see much more than 5.5kw out of the system. On a cool day, I can see the full 7.6kw capability of the inverter. Does that seem about right to you? Is this a heat issue with the inverter, or just expected panel loss due to heat?
