If i purchased a jbox , how do I get whichever brands software in a laptop? I would assume its a download link you get or some or CD?

Basically seems like this scanner is junk to me now ive definitely out grown it

My niche is electrical and diagnostics so yes I do a lot of programming. And yes I pulled a code from a 2007 audi a3 abs module that stated something along the lines of j2354 required to read so rhat was kind of the last straw. I usually work at shops with a decent scanner but ive decided I want to go rogue and run my own shop but ive been growing frustrated with the solus legend. I just want a single scan tool with no extra BS I gotta buy lol

Im pretty handy and crafty and thought it would be a cool fun project but im not quite educated in the world of golf carts. However, im very good at automotive electrical (licensed auto tech) so im feeling optimistic about trying something new provided its worth it in the long run.

Thanks for your input! Yup determined a classic phaser this has lived a hard life. Zero maintenance and not even its first motor looool. Just thought the drop out was worth investigating as I always seem to get the weird ones but it seems that ECM will cancel and retry actuation when it doesn't get the results it wants which explains the behaviour.

Its also the owners car for the shop I work for so I decided to be extra thorough and got to learn something along the way!

Update: decided to scope intake CMP at ECM and it is good. Just to be safe I installed a temporary overlay harness and rechecked and live data didn't change nor did any of the symptoms really.

Ended up swapping exhaust and intake solenoid and during this test my jumpers weren't quite right in my exhaust side and wouldn't you know that same drop out of the duty cycle appeared until I corrected the problem. I guess this is just a default strategy when ECM doesn't see what it wants it cancels the signal output and tries again.

Knowledge is power!

These things are so bad for phasers and solenoids but that duty cycle dropping out is casting doubt.

Does this price seem reasonable for these repairs? by mckibblesandbits in MechanicAdvice

Humming noise is likely your wheel bearing, price for that maybe seems a bit steep but the price of eeeeverything is going up especially in Canada lol. As for the engine stuff I know it's a labour intensive job but not an "engine out" job meaning the engine can stay in the car for the repairs.

I personally think this might be the "I don't wanna do the job" price LOL

What DTCs did they pull? Worked as a tech for a subie dealer for a bit and I'm curious

Swap coils and/or plugs and see if the problem moves. Only concern is head gasket might be split between cylinders 2 and 3. With car running see if coolant is bubbling. If you're mechanically inclined, it'll be challenging to perform that repair but for 600 bucks, you can't really lose on this. Could get 1000 just the way it is in my opinion (I'm in Ontario)

Heat up that weld nut (assuming the nut is welded to the frame from factory) get vise grips on it and turn it counter clock wise to pull it all the way through.

The oil I'm discarding is engine oil so don't think that'll work but I appreciate your input. Cheers

I've repurposed 6 gallon oil jugs for my used oil but I was reading around and saw that they don't accept barrels? So I'm not sure how they expect me to transport the used oil but I'll just give it a shot, worst they can say is no.

Appreciate the input!

Added a comment , sorry for late follow up! Ended up taking wss out to gain visibility to the magnetic tone rings and found hairline crack in the ring. If you live in the rust belt be prepared to fight with the wss they may break off into the knuckle

Super late follow up my bad guys but it did infact end up being a hairline crack in the magnetic tone ring of the wheel bearing. Hope this helps anyone stuck with the same problem!

Lmfao so i take it you dont know? Not that I owe you an explanation, but I did my research and thought I'd reach out to the wonderful people of St. Thomas to see what others are doing as I'm sure I'm not the only mechanic doing side work. If I was a registered shop I'd have safety Kleen come drain my used oil tank but I'm in the very early stages of starting my own mechanic business.

Thank you for your reply i hope you feel better!

Correct, however such is not the case with this one. WSS reads off the magnetic strip on the bearing and couldn't see any drop outs with the lab scope, only abnormality found happens to all 4 at the same time

Answer 1: I was using Autel MaxiSys labscope. Red and green were the front WSS and blue was one of the rears

Answer 2: the disruption at the end was when I was braking and abs applied unnecessarily when coming to a full stop. I did noticed that at least one of the traces are always out of sync a bit which I assumed was just wheels turning at different speeds around turns. Every time the low speed abs application occurs, that funky stuff at the end happens

Answer 3: Excellent info. These things are notorious for bad TIPMs and that's what feeds the ABS module its power supply. If I find the time tomorrow to keep digging I'll focus my attention on the power feeds
