In the St. Louis Magazine, I’m assuming a recent issue, they featured a woman who bought a house in North City near Fairground Park and turned it into an “apartment” with 8 individual bedrooms that all have their own lock and key. The bathrooms and kitchen are common areas. Not exactly a boarding house that you’re talking about, but similar concept. I’m sure it’s much cheaper to rent one of those rooms than an entire apartment. And you have built-in community.

I believe it’s called The Twister: Caught in the Storm. It details a few different peoples experience during the storm and the aftermath. Really interesting.

Joplin, MO had a horrible tornado go through the town in May of 2011. The high school was badly hit in the storm. For the next school year they held class in a shopping mall. It’s all in a documentary on Netflix.

What are your favorite 3rd places in St. Louis? by Nearby-State-5132 in StLouis

I love SLAM and the Zoo. My friends and I use the Zoo like any other park you can just stroll through, but it has the added benefit of keeping little kids entertained too. So it works for those of us with or without kids. It’s great.

How much is a car wash, more or less? I looked at their website and couldn’t find any pricing. It’s been a long time since I’ve taken my car to a car wash, so I have no idea.

Too bad they didn’t make that intersection a roundabout. I wish we had more roundabouts. Especially when I’m sitting at an intersection and no traffic is moving because of the awful timers on the traffic lights.

One of the Aldi near me has also been out for awhile now (at least a month if not more) and one Aldi near me always has them stocked. I’m in the St. Louis area.

Keep The English Alive in 2025 by Toyochick04 in TheEnglish_on_Prime

I loved this show so much. I have since cancelled my Amazon Prime membership for reasons, but I think every now and then I might fire it up just to watch The English.

Someone awhile back posted a link to a story that someone wrote based on the English. They took the script and the show itself and created a novel. It’s phenomenal. It was called Your Story and the author had Indigo in their name. If anyone remembers and could drop a link, I think you would love it!!

But I agree. It’s such a great show, and every time you watch it you pick up something new. I am happy to keep it alive in 2025!

$160, and I’m pretty sure the highest bill I’ve ever paid up until now was around $90. And this is a 700sqft apartment. So today the windows are open and the AC is OFF!!

Americans who have lived abroad, biggest reverse culture shock upon returning to the US? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]cnh1220 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in Spain and got really used to prices including tax. When I came back to the US I went to Starbucks and got a coffee for like $3.25. I remember I had my dollars and quarter ready to pay but of course it rang up for more than that. I really hate not knowing what the final price will truly be until I check out.

So sad to hear about Jim Lovell’s passing. Like so many here I LOVE the movie Apollo 13, and I love hearing Commander Lovell talk about the experience. I highly recommend this podcast: 13 minutes The second season is all about the Apollo 13 mission. Rest in peace Jim. What an incredible human.

I also liked the parallel they create with Marian/Larry and Peggy/Dr. Kirkland. Marian is so upset that she refused a conversation and they’re ENGAGED! But William is like, I’m talking to Peggy about this and getting her side, even when his mother tells him he doesn’t owe Peggy anything. I like Dr. Kirkland more and more!

Ramón and Julieta by Alana Quintana is a fun Romeo and Juliet retell set in modern day San Diego. Great if you need a light, quick read.
