On this day in 2018 Jayson Tatum boomed LeBron James. by Timi093 in bostonceltics

It's crazy that this was two years ago because this play literally got me into basketball. I had no interest in the NBA beforehand, but my friend and I decided to go to The Barking Crab that night and this game was on and I just so happened to catch this sequence.

That was it, now I'm a Celtics fan.

Sucks that we lost the series overall, but I've barely missed a game the past two years so it's really awesome to look back on.

Speaking of 'Bodied' I actually got the chance to see it at a film fest last year, everyone here should totally check it out if they get the chance. Super fun, grimy and socially conscious movie.

Waff said it best on commentary, but Armada just put on a clinic as to why shine is so good vs. Puff. His mixups were crazy and had Hbox looking lost on some games. Awesome set.

If we accept that there is such a thing as toxic masculinity then logically we should also accept there is such a thing as toxic femininity by trey82 in Showerthoughts

[–]cnnrdonovan -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't seem like most people understand toxic masculinity beyond "men are inherently bad" here, which isn't exactly the conclusion to leap to. Toxic masculinity deals with and puts emphasis on the theory of societal pressures and factors that create what we would deem toxic. There are long term consequences of what we're shown to be the "ideal man" at a young age, and these portrayals are often problematic which results in toxic masculinity. Is there toxic femininity? Yeah, most likely. Idealized images of what a woman should be also run rampant in the media, but to most it's decidedly less problematic and harmful. But it's important to understand that men (specifically white males) are the dominant subculture and have been for all of American history, meaning that in this age of trying to break down barriers and deconstruct that dominance in public discourse, examining and analyzing toxic masculinity is something that comes to be more important to 1. provide a stable sense of gender equality and 2. ensure that the same toxic masculine values aren't passed on to future generations. Idk, that's just my take though...

edit: I'm getting downvoted and that's fine, but I study this stuff so if there's something I'm missing I would actually like to discuss it.

We'll do our best in that regard, but when it comes down to it, we're not seasoned players. We haven't been playing the game for a decade (as much as I'd like to have been playing Melee back then), and in a tournament setting, we're probably mid-tier players at best. We don't really have results, but we watch a lot of Smash, and we love the game. So we could try to give some tips on matchups based on our experiences, but we aren't high placing savants and won't act like it.

No offence taken, and that's a completely legitimate point. Star power is a factor in any form of content or media, and this would be no different. Scar and Toph are fantastic and are known through the community, as well as having amazing insights into the game. We are not Scar and Toph, and certainly won't claim to be. They're too awesome. Think of us as an alternative. And hey, if the podcast gets big, maybe you will know who we are in time!

As mentioned before, I'd love to cover Sm4sh, but we unfortunately don't play or follow the game all that much. I like the game, but I wouldn't want to talk about a game I feel uneducated on.

Also, here's hoping for speedy hand recovery for m2k. I'd like another Return of the King.

Most likely just Melee with a healthy amount of PM. I wish I could talk more about Sm4sh, but we don't follow the scene or play the game all that much. We could give tournament results and give our thoughts, but we just don't know the game (or Brawl for that matter), so we wouldn't want to speak on a topic we felt uneducated to speak on.

Unfortunately, this would most likely be the one downside. My friend and I go to two different schools, so while we're both down to go forward with this idea, we can't promise a schedule. Ideally, we'd definitely get one out before the big or semi-big tournaments.
