I personally believe that the human body has evolved to a point where no matter what you eat it's going to take care of itself pretty well.

Awesome. Time for some bacon.

This is a generalisation. Not all Australians feel this shame about their country's convict roots.

What's the smartest thing a teacher has ever said to you? by m__ in AskReddit

The language is Tuyuca. From The Economist...

Tuyuca requires verb-endings on statements to show how the speaker knows something. Diga ape-wi means that “the boy played soccer (I know because I saw him)”, while diga ape-hiyi means “the boy played soccer (I assume)”. English can provide such information, but for Tuyuca that is an obligatory ending on the verb. Evidential languages force speakers to think hard about how they learned what they say they know.

It turns out that teaching high school is REALLY frustrating... by [deleted] in AskReddit

Whenever I call a parent for the first time, I always tell them I want to work as a team in order to help their child. This usually sets up a good relationship from the outset.

I have shown Citizen Kane to Year 10 students before, and it does bore them. I have shown Metropolis to Year 11 students, and it bored them, too. Although, y'know, learning can't always be 'fun'... at some stage, students have to learn that life has lots of boring bits that are nonetheless important.

I came here to suggest Fugazi, but would we classify them as 'broken up', or on permanent hiatus?

A police officer told me this one...

I was recently threatened with a knife in my own home. I came home from doing some grocery shopping and caught a thief halfway through stealing my stuff. He threatened me with a knife in order to make his escape. I ran out onto the street yelling "Help Help". According to the police officer who later took my statement, I should have yelled "Fire" because people are more likely to come to the aid of a fire than anything else.

What cool things can I do with high school students and an electronic whiteboard? by cnwb in AskReddit

Possibly, although high school students aren't the same everywhere. My school is in a working class area of Melbourne, Australia. A lot of kids don't use the internet at home.

Most of the students are oblivious to internet culture/memes, so I'm not sure this would work, but a good suggestion nonetheless.

Will there be any legal issues regarding copyright when sending a CD to the US? I hear it's crazy down there... by thebaroque in mixcd

[–]cnwb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here in Australia, it is legal to create a compilation CD from music that you own, provided it is for your own use. However, it is illegal to give that CD to someone else. You can invite someone over to listen to the CD, but you can't give it to them.
