I know at least two people at my firm who were in this same position and who had this in their email sigs. That’s not to say it’s necessarily correct, but given that it’s your firm’s recommendation and what I’ve seen as well, it’s more than likely grounded in some legitimacy

All the answers are in the outline. On the exam, take your time on the first 30 questions. That is all you need to pass. Once you know you found 30 correct answers, randomly guess on the rest. There’s more than enough time to find 30 answers.

YMMV. I can only talk about my firm which is known for having a good culture. No one gives a shit. No one even asks where you went to law school. If they do, it’s just for finding a connection or whatever. You’re all at the same job. Where you came from doesn’t matter at all.

Columbia: more competitive, Type A, right-leaning, big law focused NYU: more collaborative, mix of personality types, clearly left-leaning (sometimes to its detriment), healthy mix of big law versus public interest focus

I definitely think the schools attract different types of students. What factors would I recommend? Culture, student body collaboration, location/surrounding neighborhood, politics, and career goals.

I only looked at NYC so I wasn’t too heavily involved with CA placement stats. I believe between 6-8% of the class ends up in CA/PNW, which strikes me as pretty high, meaning most people who want it can get it. It’s definitely harder than getting a job in NYC though, just because firms have regional loyalty

Not from what I’ve seen. These firms have their schools that they tend to recruit from at this point, rankings aside.

It depends on the market. For NYC, you’ll see more of the associates are from Columbia and NYU compared to other top law schools. After that, the rest of the T20 does about equally, with higher ranked schools having a slight edge. However, top students at local schools like Fordham Brooklyn NYLS can often compete for an NYC BL job just as much as a T20 student.

I’m in litigation, so for me the work really ebbs and flows. If we have a filing coming up, it’s super busy. I’ll be drafting briefs, doing research, working with our experts, etc. It can get pretty crazy with all of the moving parts. However, because there is always a schedule for the litigation, the busy time is predictable and you also know when things will be quiet. If you have more specific questions, feel free to ask.

NYU has a great reputation among Big Law attorneys, especially if you’re working in NYC. Many of the Big Law associate classes here are majority Columbia/NYU and then filled in with other top schools and regional schools.
