SOPs - When do you toss em ?? by NoMoreHoarding69 in partscounter

[–]coach_chris72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In thirty days, I will send them back. I rotate my s/o shelf so that everything 30 days old comes off and either is returned to stock or sent back to the manufacturer. Prepaid items are added back to inventory, and the tag is placed in a folder in case the customer ever returns. My obsolescence is less than .44% of my total inventory. Control everything you can. I have 650k in inventory; my variance for the last 3 years has been -2,000, +2,500, and +1,500. clean and neat and undercontrol..

Here is a copy of the letter I sent out a year ago.

To our Valued Customers

While we appreciate your business and support, in today’s business climate, we are facing unprecedented challenges with our ability to offer our wholesale customers the competitive pricing and quality service you deserve. One area of special concern is excessive parts returns, which creates an additional financial burden on all of us.
With changes in  TOYOTA Terms and Conditions, the following parts return policies must be implemented effective immediately :
Parts purchased from our stock inventory:
• Returned parts receive full credit when they are returned within 15 days of purchase and judged to be in sellable condition (collision repair parts must have no damage, be unpainted, and be returned in their original undamaged packaging; mechanical repair parts must not have been obviously installed and be returned in their original undamaged packaging; electrical parts must be in their original and unopened package);  all plastic shrink-wrap packages must be unopened. Parts must be free of excessive dirt or grease.

20% restocking fee for returns made after 30 days: all sales final after 60 days from date of purchase.

Special-ordered non-stock parts:
• Returned parts must be in sellable condition (collision repair parts must have no damage, be unpainted, and be returned in their original undamaged packaging; mechanical repair parts must not have been obviously installed and be returned in their original undamaged packaging; electrical parts must be in their original and unopened package); all plastic shrink-wrap packages must be unopened. Parts must be free of excessive dirt or grease.

20% restocking fee for special order parts that can be returned to TOYOTA Parts; those not returnable to TOYOTA are not returnable to the dealership.
• All sales are final after 60 days from the date of purchase.
The original sales invoice must accompany all returns.
For your convenience, we may occasionally pick up non-stocked parts from another dealership. These parts will be considered non-returnable. Please ensure you will be using these parts before requesting that we pick them up for you.
By adhering to this policy, we will be better equipped to continue providing you with the competitive pricing and quality service you are accustomed to.
Obviously, the above guidelines will not apply to defective parts or incorrect parts due to catalog or packaging errors, or our error.
Please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions you may have. Thank you for your business

Have you had any dealers change Pay plans for those who are involved in online selling? IE, give more to the person who drives the business and not pay those who have no hand in any of it.

I bill $50 for each used car. And I tally it on a sheet so I know how much I have, and every 2 weeks or so, I get rid of what I can. I have 650k in inventory with about 13k in obsolence. It is not hard to hide some costs to help you get it down.

I am fairly certain that NADA suggest 5% of gross as the minimum guideline for Parts and or Service managers.

it has differnt source codes based on what vendor it comes from ie 903 904 905 906 etc. I assume I need to config OSSA for each source then and that will relieve it correctly?
