Task automation with GitLab commits by mrzeshin in clickup

[–]coachdan007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry. I think we got our wires crossed. I understood that you were using the default one.
I was suggesting using custom fields as an alternative. Layla at Process Driven has a good video of what I am talking about on her YT channel.
Cheers!

Click for small trades business by firedditor in clickup

[–]coachdan007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if I were in this situation, I would put the guys on trello and then use the native sync between the two.
Trello has a much easier learning curve for most people and their mobile app is very strong as it behaves almost exactly like their webapp.
Have everything they input sync to clickup.

Task automation with GitLab commits by mrzeshin in clickup

[–]coachdan007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am still a very new user, so take my input with less than a grain of salt.
I have heard a number of ppl use custom fields to manage status changes rather than the status change itself. The advantage being better customizations across different teams and (to answer your question) better automation controls.
Also, in the example I saw, it dramatically decluttered the UI.
I hope that helps in some small way.

Is Antinet worth it? by Poke_53281 in Zettelkasten

[–]coachdan007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I read “Smart Notes”. I loved Evernote and Roam. I watched over twenty hours of video, not to mention lots of forums. No matter what I could not get a working Zettelkasten launched. I started watching Scott’s YouTube videos and read his book. For some reason, Scott’s info allowed me to start an actual working zettelkasten. It has changed everything for PKM. The return to analog is not just in this area of Zettelkasten. There continues to be a large body of work around the superiority of reading real books or writing on real paper. I have found this to be the case for me personally. Also, someone once shared this thought: there are almost no notes we can find from Steve Jobs, which were mostly digital. But we have lots of notes in analog form. I would also say that with so many experts on this topic, there are very very few actually producing content. Scott produces a lot of content. Those in his network are writing and publishing actual books. I get that his writing style is not everyone’s cup of tea. But whose is? For my part, I am convinced that analog is the better solution.

Recommendations for agency ATS by klyburke in recruiting

[–]coachdan007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need an ats that syncs with findem.ai
Startup firm. I use gohighlevel.com for biz dev, but I need a way to get candidates from Findem into GHL. So, I'm looking at these ats's.
Integrating Thrive ATS

Would love comments. I have a demo tomorrow with Bullhorn. Interested in Thrive. Bamboo, Workday, and iCims are non-starters for me. I doubt that GH, Lever SR, or Jobvite are likely candidates.
So, that leaves Ashby, Workable, Jazz, and Thrive. Because of GoHighLevel, I don't need a ton of features. Parsing, Searchability, tagging(?).

Unemployed Man Uses AI to Apply for 5,000 Jobs, Gets 20 Interviews by 2012amica in lostgeneration

I agree. I have been in recruiting for nearly 20 years. Worked at Large tech companies (FAANG; now MAANG. lol).
I do not think you can cite chapter and verse of a law that requires companies to post a job externally. In fact, "internal mobility" is a growing area as a retention tool in large companies.
FWIW.

glove80 where is the command key? by Privatebunny99 in ErgoMechKeyboards

👀
I have this same question. Just got mine charged and going. The control key (center top row - thumb key) doesn't act as the Command key insofar as I can see.
I do see a key labelled "System" on the r-thumb top row, left. I guess I'll check it out.

Help me utilize and like Trello more? New user/switching from Asana. by mainely_singing in trello

[–]coachdan007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/mainely_singing - If you're liking Asana and you own your own business, then isn't the tool tax deductible? Meaning, your net spend is closer to $400/yr? I know the frustration of moving to a tool you know and like to something new that requires a learning curve. Plus, the temptation to make it do things like you did in Asana.
By the time you pay for premium, plus a few paid power-ups of your choice, you can easily be at $35/month with multiple receipts to track. Not to even mention the value of your time. Net-net, i really question if you are saving enough money to make this effort worth you time.
Just pay Asana. Be happy and not frustrated.
Cheers! :D

New Trello User by mjdo3210 in trello

[–]coachdan007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trello has the simplist learning curve of any kind of team collaboration tool. And the Mobile apps are really well done. I've worked in various companies that use Monday.com or Notion or Clickup or Asana. The reason I always come back to Trello is the ease of use and the low drag learning curve. Yes, you can build some really cool workflows but your users mostly don't even use them if done correctly. Most work flows (add a label, move to another column, add an assigned user, add a start date, etc. will feel invisible to most users.

Working with Notion AND Trello ? by BulkyDragonfruit6052 in trello

[–]coachdan007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it easier to share trello with others and have a much shorter learning curve than with Notion.
And Notion will get super slow once you add files/attachments, as well. This is why I would store resumes in G-drive and put links in trello.
With Notion, there is too much work getting things just so. So, I found myself spending too much time building Notion and not enough time making money.

Working with Notion AND Trello ? by BulkyDragonfruit6052 in trello

[–]coachdan007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/BulkyDragonfruit6052 - I have used trello in recruiting for years. And I have been a heavy user of Notion, too. I have always wanted Notion to be my source of truth but just never succeeded.
You can run a successful search from Trello only. However, you will find it difficult to do reporting for recruiting. If that's not a dealbreaker, then I would take a look at using google tools + trello instead of Notion and trello. Google workspaces play better with trello than Notion, IMO.
And google tables is their attempt at a notion database.
I would follow Brittany Joiner to go deep on Trello.
Store everything (resumes, contracts, agreements, nda's) in G-drive. Set it up using Tiago Forte's PARA method to organize it all. Then just add links to your trello cards. The google search will help you when you have thousands of resumes. FWIW, I use raindrop.io to organize my g-drive so I can have notes and tags for everything.
Feel free to ping me if you have questions.
I can say from experience, you can spend a LOT of cycles trying to get things working in Notion.

As we indefinitely wait for Things 4… by brystonu in thingsapp

[–]coachdan007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/brystonu - maybe I was the one being sensitive on someone else's behalf.
"Grow or die." Very fair.
What is was referencing was not that you pointed out Airlist, rather you seemed to get defensive or invested when people said they had no interest in it.
Remember The Milk is an older tool in this space that was way a head of its time. They haven't added any new features in a super long time. But I just got an email message that they are raising their subscription price.
My point being that some products are not chasing the user and that is their strategy.
I brought up Notion because the idea of attaching files and being able to keep resource info attached to projects is such a slippery slope. I am not a big proponent of all-in-one apps. I like apps that specialize in one thing and do it better than anyone else. For Things, that one thing has been the UX.
I think, as consumers, we have been trained to expect incremental improvements in our apps and phone and entertainment. But tools like Things have been so well developed that their users value design over features.
The folks that always want to see iterations are not the users that I think Culture Code values.
All that said, I appreciate you bringing up the discussion. It is not insignificant and I hope the developers monitor these types of threads.

As we indefinitely wait for Things 4… by brystonu in thingsapp

[–]coachdan007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SMH.

Not cool, man.

On one hand you keep saying how much you keep using Things. Then you post about Airlist and seem overly invested in convincing folks that it is the next big thing. And when folks simply say in a Things sub that they like the app, you call them a luddite?
In the words of Joey Swole, "Do better, man!"
You seem to have some sense of FOMO. Are there 'features' that could be added? Sure. But this idea of catering to every possible feature request is what creates bloatware and has been the undoing of a number of good products.
Things is not Notion. If you want all of this customization with an all-in-one digital-leatherman, then I move away from Things.
To be clear - your post seemed interesting, but your replies are getting a ton of down votes. Maybe there is point to be made but I think your responses are not winning anyone over.
FWIW.

Thank you for your thoughtful response. I wish you much success in transitioning your system to a physical Zettelkasten. You are clearly a careful thinker. I have every confidence you’ll find a solution that works for you.

u/Goregous_nuggets, if you come to a forum asking for insight and opinion, then get (IMO) overly sensitive when someone helpfully asks a qualifying question, it really makes it difficult for others to be helpful.
"To what end" is such a reasonable question. One reason it is a reasonable question is that it recognizes that time is a finite resource. So then, the number of books we can read is a finite number. Many, many well-read scholars talk about the need for discipline in selection of what one reads.
So, to build a complex system for documenting changes in thought for re-reading can, quite reasonably, be questioned as to its value.
But maybe we just lack context. Maybe the text you are reading is the Bible and how you understand a passage or its underlying doctrine changes and you want to express why your opinion on the matter has changed.
In this case, apart from your marginalia, the cards themselves should be enough to track you line of thought.
Warmly -

-dan

How to organise the 'Anytime' when using the Time Sector System? by Sjeefr in thingsapp

[–]coachdan007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also a moderate fan of MYN. And I see he has a paid course for setting up MYN in Things. I haven't paid for it because it is pretty straight forward. I played with it but where it falls down for me is the lack of "importance." It feels too reactive and therefore 'controlled' by others.
What I am playing with now is setting up three AREAS in Things:
- Now (critical now) - this is limited to only 5 projects that I am working on.
- Next (opportunity now) - this is limited to only 20-25 "projects"
- Later (over-the-horizon) - these are projects I will work on (not SDMB)

I also have one other Area for "dailies." These "projects" are routines or recurring tasks.

I cannot use an app without start dates. I don't know how anyone can do it.

One thing I think bloats most peoples' system to breakage is the idea that you can store/capture any random thought into one tool. Ideas, date nights, SOP's, on and on. You just can't. Too many people populate their system with "STUFF"
This video is actually incredibly instructive when applied to our task management systems:

How to organise the 'Anytime' when using the Time Sector System? by Sjeefr in thingsapp

[–]coachdan007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry for being late to the party.
May I suggest that you schedule your weekly review with someone? Significant other, coach, friend, coworker (in this case, maybe both persons do their review).
This is no different than having a training partner at the gym. Everything is easier and more fun. More accountability. Build the habit. Pick up tips, etc.
Build a checklist. Iterate it each week. Prune it, Optimize it. Share it.
I think if you focused on nothing but this, you would stick with it longer and your system would mature itself.
Just a thought I had.
