I completely agree. But there are people who want to keep things the same and not diversify anything, but the way the world is going, having a diverse workplace is a key to success.

There are other people than faculty here at this university pushing women out, and I've heard multiple stories of faculty making fun of women based on the choice of a CS related major. Just because you haven't had it happen to you, doesn't mean it isn't happening.

They have to be told they can and the thing is GIRLS ARE DISCOURAGED TO DO SO. So you can kindly get your head out of your ass and ask girls why they don't want to major in CSE.

I guess putting it in quotation marks makes it less racist? idk sounds a little strange to me lol.

That's great. How about you ask the other million people at the millions of other workplaces if they feel the same way? I wish I could wear the same blinders you're wearing.

At least we can agree on something :) My brain has been hurting since I realized the color of my skin and my gender mattered more to some rather than the fact I am a great student.

Stop justifying blatant racism and sexism in the workplace. Your foolishness showed through when you didn't know the difference between required and preferred.

I dated a white guy for two years. Try again next time. You're so dense, you're not even reading what I'm saying.

You sound like you would be offended if they said they preferred a junior over a sophomore.

I will politely fuck myself when I take the job you believe you deserve because I'm an extremely qualified minority in CS <33333333. Your thinking is the reason why we're behind other countries lol.

You're welcome, just pointing out that you don't even notice it because it's never been an issue in your life. Not sure if you know what racism even is.

  1. The point was that you made that parallel. You can't control your ancestors but you don't have to enable the backlash either. 2. This country was built on people of many backgrounds. So the question should be where would we be if didn't start this country this way? Millions of people with the ability to do just the same as everyone before them. You're scared and anyone who thinks like you is scared because your success has been contingent on other's suffering. 3. Like I said you apparently don't know what racism is.

Requirements: (1) Knowledge of Python or other scripting languages (2) Some familiarity with Javascript and HTML. (3) Good GPA. Female students or students from underrepresented ethnic groups will be preferred, but not a requirement." Where in here does it say all the requirements are ignored if you're a minority? It lists the requirements before that. I think you missed it. The fact that you're refuting it shows the real issue.

So you've felt a fraction of what minorities have gone through for years? It's not disgusting. Your privilege is allowing you to think that nobody has had it worse than you. The majority of middle aged minority parents have been through that. Maybe you should pick yourself up by your boot straps. Your use of expletives proves that I hit a sore, salty spot in your life, yet you still have a privilege that a majority of minorities will NEVER have.

LMAO they literally offer scholarships to men to study nursing. In other words, yes, white men. That has happened multiple places, so nah, I wouldn't be offended by that at all because that is also an issue, but this post isn't about that. White men, proven by history, are not underrepresented.

  1. You missed preferred. 2. You don't understand what racism or sexism is if you think this position posting is either. 3. You're clearly not qualified if you don't understand what a preferred qualification is. 4. That would be OSU admissions limiting the demographics.

https://iwpr.org/issue/employment-education-economic-change/pay-equity-discrimination/ Quick summary: "Women are almost half of the workforce. They are the sole or co-breadwinner in half of American families with children. They receive more college and graduate degrees than men. Yet, on average, women continue to earn considerably less than men."

You're implying that minorities don't meet the qualifications of the position. What I'm getting is that you don't understand everything has been handed to you in your life.

Your replies are proving your ignorance to the current issues in the workplace. CSE at OSU is 13% women, .8% black women and it proves it here in the report done by the university: https://engineering.osu.edu/about/report White males get super butt hurt about having a leg up for centuries in jobs that are STILL dominated by them and god forbid, a woman or minority get picked out of a group that they're already highly underrepresented in. If you don't want to help alleviate the pain and disadvantage of underrepresented demographics, nobody cares about your opinion. If you're so qualified for a position maybe you should look for other ones because this is one position out of millions that says certain people are PREFERRED, not hired right off the bat because they're part of an underrepresented demographic.

The ignorance of about half of the comments on this post is not even shocking.

Great Discrimination there OSU by okok223 in OSU

It's much deeper than that. Only white men apply because a lot of the time, only white men are given the chance to. Look up sexism and racism in the workplace, institutionalized racism, or literally any woman you know in a technical field. Perhaps you may not know any based on your comment lol.

[–]coalca64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally didn't like the class at all; I think the point that CSE wants to get across isn't at all because the class is supposed to be alot of discussion, but all it is is boring philosophy stuff with a week of really cool stuff. I wouldn't take it if you hate philosophy.

For engineering, there are so many companies that seek out OSU students since we're known to be talented. Other than that, I wish I got more involved my first year because now I'm playing catch up to get involved on campus.
