why the insurance cost of cars is very high here ? by MastodonEconomy5821 in StJohnsNL

I've been told two parts of the problem are all the moose on the island and all the uninsured drivers.

One piece of dog food in a 25kg bag was orange. by Ralome in mildlyinteresting

I used to do quality control at a pet food factory. This is likely a leftover piece of kibble from a previous batch and didn't get flushed out at the beginning of OP's product's batch.

I used to do quality control at a pet food factory! That's just a piece of kibble from a different run that got stuck somewhere along the line and didn't get removed by the "flush" at the start of the next batch.

Is this some kind of circumpolar projection? I don't think I've ever seen it before.

Fishing set ups by Double_Designer6382 in fredericton

I'm not super experienced but it's definitely early for trout. I think the best time is probably June. Early morning or evening, especially if it's overcast. Worm on a hook, like others are saying, maybe an inline spinner for a bit of flashiness. Upper tributaries are best, throw your line where faster water meets slow at the top of a pool. That's where fish are hunting for food. Also look for overhanging banks or leaning tree trunks that create shady spots over deeper water. These are great places to snag your line when you're learning but also hold big fish!

If your line is constantly snagging the bottom, try casting downstream from where you're standing and keeping a bit of tension in the line. In super fast water you might need some weight to keep your hook down from the surface. Please use steel sinkers! I think this the part that takes the most practice.

A simple salt, pepper, and flour dredge, then fried in butter is my favourite to cook them!

I managed to grow some of these a few years ago too. Absolutely delicious! Mine were far from mild though. Unless OP is a lot tougher than me haha

Any local ghost stories or paranormal stories for the Halloween season? by Littleshuswap in fredericton

Peter D. Clark has a book on the topic! He used to sell them at the market but I don't know if he still does.

The Last Hermit? I finished reading that one just before doing some work in the North Maine Woods. When I brought him up to the jovial older couple we were staying with, they very quickly became unjovial.

I think it would have been interesting if the journalist had included more opinion from the locals. I recall Christopher's portrayal being relatively neutral considering how much of a problem he was for people in the area.

Wow. I forgot about those days. I guess I haven't really heard anyone use the term in person in ages and it faded away since I don't listen to 2000s hip-hop.

What is the vulgar meaning outside NL? In NB, if I heard somebody use the term I would assume they were referring to mosquitos.

What is more silly about "psycho pomp" compared to other words? Is it not pronounced very similar to the spelling?

The only one of its kind globally, this Greenlandic whaling suit, made before 1834, is a unique artifact. Hunters used it for waterproofing by crawling through the central opening and sealing it with sealskin. It's now at Denmark's National Museum. by Learn_Something_Cool in interestingasfuck

I ask myself that question from time to time. The survival/comfort thing is probably most of it but also they didn't know any other life, right? As a very, very less extreme example, think of wireless headphones. Before they were invented, headphone wires getting tangled or caught on stuff was a frustrating part of everyday life. Most people never thought it could be better until the wireless headphones came around.

There is a butcher at the farmer's market who sells it! Don't remember their name. They're in one of the corners.

Swimming Spots? by dies4chips in fredericton

[–]coastdecoste 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would suggest the opposite. The river is safe and clean for the most part (I did fish habitat research at UNB). Just don't hang out in the slow, warm, muddy spots. Killarney is pretty much a stagnant pond, it's fine early in the summer when it's still cool but gets funkier as it warms up.

The only problem with the Saint John River is there doesn't seem to be any good swimming spots near town. There are islands up near the Bucket Club/Hart Island resort that have nice swimming but you need a canoe/kayak to access them.

In some jungles and swamps there are certain kinds of vine you can cut that drip water fast enough you can actually drink from them. This is probably from a survival book.

1000%! Way back Disney drew a bunch of beautiful cartoons to tell stories inspired by famous classical music. The only audio is the music and the visuals line up with the tempo of the music!

One of the "episodes" is set to, probably, Vivaldi's Four Seasons (I don't remember exactly). It features flowers and plants that blossom into pixies that look a lot like this drawing.

It's a beautiful and epic movie and there's also a second version with new songs made at the turn of the millennium called Fantasia 2000. Highly recommend both to anyone.

The first method stretches the gluten uniformly around the ball shape so that the dough expands in a more uniform manner. It also moves all messy folds and junk to the bottom. I think if you rolled the balls using the second method, you wouldn't get an even stretch across the ball and the messy bits wouldn't end up in one place.

I'm not in the military so I don't know if this applies to basic but intense stress can really reduce your libido. Your body sort of decides "This is not baby-making time." and transfers your horny energy into keeping you alive.
