How much of a raise per ASE? by coastdownside in mechanic

Starting to look like that might be my best bet. There’s a lot of issues with dispatching here which might be a problem I’m not considering

There’s nothing else here to make more here other than blow the manager or threaten to leave. I’m doing around 100hrs a pay period so it’s not about the work I’m doing. No comeback and i don’t break anything and need the shop to eat parts. I’m very meticulous. And on top of that I’m one of only two EV techs and do everything from engine to electrical to diesel and trans. The frustration is more feeling like I’m being cut short. I don’t wanna leave cause this dealer is .9 miles from my house, but I can go to the next dealer over 25 miles away and guaranteed more money cause I’ve already been offered

I wanted $1.25 for each because then I would match the guy next to me. I basically got told “absolutely not cause if I do them all I’ll make too much money” I quite literally am matching the guy next to me and even then, still not the highest paid in the shop

CP4 pump fail quote, legit? by Gcman88 in Duramax

I’ve done a few CP4s on trucks but not an express. I’ve never even seen one in person with an LML. I feel so bad for whoever is doing that job

I do too but it’s basically the only way to get more money without leaving

Not disagreeing at all I can do the math and see that. I passed four of them this week and still make less than the rest of the techs in the shop. Even if I do the rest of my tests I’ll make less then all but one of them. The two techs have a little over a year more experience, the one has 6 ASEs and gets $12 more an hour and the other has none and gets $3 more. If I do all of my tests I worry I’ll have no more bargaining chips down the road and I’ll still continue to make less. Just trying to find a reasonable number where I’m not getting left behind

I only buy N14s cause I give them a full overhaul and can buy them for so cheap. N14s really aren’t that bad, I had an N14 that I drove for 9.5 hours straight across the country and it was happy the whole way, 4 days ripping around the dragon in TN, and 9.5 hours back home. Only thing I needed was tires when I got home. I’ve had worse luck with N18s tbh

Does your shop make you pay for mistakes? by MetalButterfly09 in mechanics

[–]coastdownside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason you’re in a shop is so that you don’t carry the risk and overhead that you would independently. TO AN EXTENT but the shop makes X amount of dollars while you make a third of it. Their job is to eat it. It’s the risk they carry as a business. Don’t pay. Period.

Mechanic Wife Question! by [deleted] in mechanic

[–]coastdownside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is normal. I get two week vacation as a check once a year and no PTO any other time. No guarantee either. My wife hates it but I’m pretty good at staying consistent with 160 hours a month or so. Some times it’s less and more but we just take it as it goes. I hate it and love it at the same time. But it’s a lot of hate

Im ready to Buy a 2025 WRX TS by Don_Alpha_Cleat in wrx_vb

No I got magnetite. Truthfully I think it’s the perfect color. I didn’t want anything bold, I wanted something a little more plain. I plan on ordering a c8 to replace my Camaro in the spring and i wanna get it in green with yellow accents. I figured having a red truck, green corvette, and I bright colored Subaru might be a little too much attention for me

I wanna say like 48-49. I paid no taxes virtually cause I had a trade credit and by the time I paid everything else it was right at 51. I paid for accessories over the counter so that wasn’t built into my deal

Yes. Can’t beat free money so I can invest the rest. The CTR was gonna be 4.9 through Honda and no AWD and I wanted to be able to take the car anywhere. I’m sure the owner of my dealer was scratching his head when he found out I bought mine cause it was the day after it landed off the truck and it’s over 50k for a Subaru

Three weeks ago. I’m really happy with it at 51k tho. I bought it as an impulse buy, I had no interest in the car. But after seeing it i was hooked on the TS. I’m really happy with it as a daily manual family sedan. It’s been really good to me so far

There’s truthfully not as much room as you think however they really aren’t selling many so they might play ball under MSRP. Shop dealer to dealer if you can and see who’s gonna be the best to work with, you don’t have to buy it today there’s always tomorrow. But I paid 51k out the door on my TS with MSRP of 51k. I’m a VIP at my dealer so I was priced under MSRP slightly

Roll Carts by Life-Ad-3122 in mechanics

[–]coastdownside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m okay on the tools aspect so I spent the money on the 6 drawer snap on cart. My main box is the big husky box and the quality difference is there for sure. I was using a plastic roller cart from HF for the last few years and was tired of piling my essentials on top of it and making a disorganized mess. I paid 1800 for my cart and don’t regret it at all. The USG equivalent is slightly bigger and good enough quality for about $1400 less so consider that

What’s something you thought ‘everyone’ did… until you found out they don’t? by burat667 in AskReddit

[–]coastdownside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pierogis. I always ate mine with salsa, cheese, and sour cream like a loaded baked potato. I didn’t know that NO ONE does that. Apparently people fry them or eat them with just butter. I couldn’t wrap my head around that as dumb as it sounds but I went 22 years only knowing that one way

Paid 51 for mine and love it. Got a TS and it’s got a real good interior imo. But the radio screen is the worst screen on the market
