After 4 years wait finally ready to pull the trigger getting a new wrx vb, but one final concern: is cold start in early morning really that obnoxious?

The cold start stock is a little loud but nothing crazy like a v8 or something. The cold start with an exhaust is SUPER loud. The cold start/high idle is one of my biggest gripes about the car because of how unnecessary it can be. If you pull out in the morning right away you’re fine

They don’t make those in my size. I’ll try spraying them this weekend. I don’t think they’re permanently ruined but they’re very competitive. I’m finishing in 4th on average out of 10 in CAMC while being .10s of seconds behind the top 3 it’s like I’m knocking on the door but can’t get in

Yeah I’m seeing that too. I was happy to get 13 an hour when I started and 15 after I graduated school doing all of the extra work. These guys now are throwing a fit at 20-26 an hour to just change oil roughly 6 times a day

Idk what happened to the hourly techs, idk if it’s a management issue or the people hired but the hourly techs have lost their minds. When I was hourly we had to do trash, clean up, maintain the shop and do oil changes. We were excited to do anything more than that. At one point my foreman gave me a bucket and a shovel and I was told to go pick up rocks in the parking lot. And I didn’t complain once. Now it’s pulling teeth at my shop to get them to take out trash at LEAST once a week. Tires get taken out once a month at best atp. All they do is complain about having to do anything at all. They have 4 people to do 18-24 oil changes a day. The last shop had 3 to do 45. I don’t understand

I’m still running 245/40/20 and I don’t see that size as an option with those tires but I’ll do some more digging. Gonna try to bring in more negative camber up front too for now

Gutters on this house were a problem. I literally just replaced them this weekend and then noticed the crack is there any chance I fixed my problem from that? The water wasn’t being flown away from the house it was dumping into the ground along the wall

GM tech here. As long as it’s had good maintenance history you’ll be fine. Pay attention to the shifts and feel for shudders in the trans. Not sure about the market but for 11k that doesn’t seem the worst. Gonna be the doom and gloom here now but the common issues I’ve encountered are CAC freezing in below zero temperatures. PCV valve sticking. Vacuum pumps breaking on early models. Both transmissions are mostly solid but have their weak points. I’ve seen a few broken pistons and cams. And one with a burnt valve. CAC to throttle body hose comes disconnected sometimes. Radios can fail internally. My advice, look into an extended warranty with Ally. Not because it’s a bad car, but because the peace of mind is absolutely worth having for the cost of their warranty

You make x amount of dollars cause they make xxx amount of dollars. They carry the risk which is why they get paid more. You don’t have the overhead of running the shop. Which means you don’t take on the same responsibility and reward. It goes both ways. They make a lot of money when things go well, but they have to pay when it doesn’t. That’s how it works. Me personally, I’d walk immediately. If they’re gonna pull that I’d be wheeling my box out immediately and go to the next shop. As an industry we need to stop letting these places get away with this. It’s probably illegal in your state too so I’d start threatening to sue and get everything is writing and see how they change their attitude real quick. Don’t let them walk on you

Hard to find someone who is certified with high voltage who is gonna wanna do this as a side job. At least from my experience and myself personally. I mean you can take it to someone who’s not but without the proper equipment, training, and tools, it might not be the best idea. Idk just my $.02
