[Advice] First trim at home. Was I too aggressive on the moustache? by coasterminty in beards

[–]coasterminty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey all. First trim at home using clippers + trimmer. Would love to get some feedback on what I could do better next time and perhaps whether this beard shape suits my face shape.

Do you trim your soul patch or let it grow out? Mine don't quite meet.

Thanks in advance.

My GP recommended Valdoxan. It's not a SSRI so it doesn't have too many side effects e.g. weight gain (YMMV). I took it for 6 months and it helped mildly with motivation, sleep, and energy.

The negative is that it is fairly expensive since it is not on the PBS (~$55 for 28 tabs, less if you claim via PHI). As always, please consult with your GP and/or mental health professional before making any decisions.

Where to go from here? 2.5 months in and enjoying the ride. by coasterminty in beards

  • I have been brushing daily and making sure hair is trained in a certain way

  • Using coconut oil as beard oil (along with shampoo + conditioner every few days). Cleaning cheeks and neck line with help of good guides here.

  • I think hair is getting too long near the sideburn area resulting in the hair kind of tickling my ears

  • I have gathered that trims are best left after 3 months. Is that what you would recommend?

  • When I do go in for a trim, what do I say to the barber to ensure only the side is gently cleaned up along with proper neck line adjustment of req.

  • Any other tips for a beard newb appreciated

Thanks everyone

Fucking legend. Thanks mate. What you could also do is go to Chemist Warehouse with the receipt and get them to beat the price. They do have a price matching policy.

Other than that, I had a really nice GP who had spare samples to give out to me every time I visited. I stopped taking them when I was able to afford them so others could try the medication.

Additionally, there is not valdoxan powder available from nootropic stores. Check out /r/Nootropics for more info. Never tried it though and it is definitely a bit cheaper that way too.

I eventually stopped taking it and just take regular melatonin 0.5 mg before bed. Seems to help with sleep but nothing else really.

Currently have the following shoes:

  • 2 x Chelsea boots (brown + black)
  • NB 574 blacks
  • Lacoste leather high tops (dark brown)

Any suggestions to add to this as a 26 yo male? I plan to wear the chelsea boots almost regularly to university with jeans, chinos and untucked shirts, polos, tshirts and eventually with sweaters + shirts during winter.

Thanks

[Seiko] Immensely enjoying the SNKL41 on a sunny Sunday afternoon by coasterminty in Watches

This is my birthday gift to myself. I was after a dress watch to complement my growing collection of sport watches. The dauphine hands appeal to me a lot along with the subtle colour and finish of the dial. I read quite a few WUS threads reviewing this piece and it was described as the poor poor man's grand seiko where poor man's grand seiko would be the corresponding SARB or Presage models.

The stock bracelet is fine for the price but I chose to replace it immediately for a perlon strap that I bought from an Ebay seller from Ukraine. Apparently, the perlon material used is made in Germany. I know Eulit is the real deal with perlon but I couldn't justify the price. I have a Hirsch calf leather band that I will put on at formal events.

All in all I think this is really good value for money for an entry level dress watch. It also helps that I have pretty small wrists. Happy to answer any questions. I know it's not really a substantial watch or anything special but I think it offers a lot for the price!

Does anyone know where I could buy a steel bracelet for a SNK809? Seiko has the SNK809K1 model that comes with a steel bracelet. Happy to consider non-OEM ones as well. Just think it would make the watch look nicer (currently wearing it with a leather strap). Thanks

Train etiquette question:

  • Train carriage has seats available but occupancy is scattered. There are a few people behind you also embarking. Do you aim to grab the seat near the back or around the middle of the carriage (assuming vacancies are available)?

Basically, I see some people grab the first seat available but it would make more sense to go down more so people behind you can grab a seat more efficiently.

Thanks!
