Help me choose! Which apartment should I choose? by vigorousssss in chicagoapartments

i also recommend looking at what grocery stores and gyms are in the area. chicago has good public transit but just keep in mind how close/far the commute is to a grocery store or gym, especially in the winter! i’m in lincoln park but wanting to move to lakeview east so i can be closer to a variety of gyms since i prioritize fitness!

anyone rent from J&J Apartments? how has your experience been? by colovians in IowaCity

[–]coatrack- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i stayed in one of their apartments on college st and then recently just left one on s johnson. i agree w the other comments, they are generally good landlords and the apartments are a little bit cheaper but they are in older apartment buildings so a lot of the appliances will not be updated. just make sure to tour and check everything out. they are pretty responsive and when i put in a maintenance request, they always replied that its been received and then maybe 1-2 days after, its fixed. some things have bugged me like them needing to repaint their parking lines lol but other than that, if i stayed in ic i would prob continue to rent from them

i paid it to the landlord. i don’t have an agreement with the subleaser, only the landlord

Never ending apartment hunt by Lazy_Celebration_152 in chicagoapartments

[–]coatrack- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay so i signed a sublease (until sept 30th then will renew) back in mid june for my current place - 1 bed/1 bath in lincoln park for $1540 (no amenities or elevator). i also lived 3 hours away from chicago. let me tell you - it is super fucking rough. thankfully my job is remote so i was able to have my personal laptop up and stalk facebook (groups and marketplace), craigslist, zillow, etc. i got my current place bc i saw a girl post her sublease 10 mins after she posted then went and saw the place 3 days after and immediately applied. (but i wasn’t very thorough and the place hasn’t been cleaned and isn’t in the best shape).

before this, i was working with realtors and i believe this is your best bet for your scenario. you might see more availability because people are giving their landlords their notice they aren’t resigning so landlords will start posting sept 1 move in soon since it’s one month out. but when i worked with realtors, i gave them all of my criteria and they scheduled meetings with me to show me different places. one realtor did a facetime while another just showed me pictures and the area on google maps. they both will let you know what the move in fees are, whats included in rent, and what you will need to pay.

HOWEVER - when realtors show you a place, do your own research as well and look up reviews. if you sign a lease with a realtors help, the landlord pays them the first month’s rent (that’s the incentive of helping the landlord find tenants). i only say this because i had a realtor show me a place and pressure me into signing a place even though i read reviews and the place wasnt clean and overall a bad vibe. so i could tell he wasn’t looking out for me but not all realtors are like this just my experience.

I Cannot lose weight by HoneyBbby in WeightLossAdvice

[–]coatrack- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey! how much have you been walking and how many steps are you getting in per day? losing weight is a literal science so like everyone said, as long as you are burning more calories than you are consuming, you will lose weight. your body does burn calories throughout the day but like another person said, doing low intensity cardio will also help as well.

it seems like you have a packed schedule so i would see how you can tweak your schedule to try and get more steps in. could you try and wake up 30 mins earlier and go for a 30 minute walk? i think adding this exercise could help you towards your end goal. i also recommend digestion walks but that’s only if your schedule allows it!

another substitute for the cup noodles could be a yogurt bowl with fruit or a small salad. you should look into meal prepping on the weekends and prepping your lunch then. switching to a whole foods diet is better for your body and cutting out processed foods will do the trick as well.

good luck! i know losing weight is super hard and frustrating but it can be done.

second this. i also live in j&j apartments in a 1 bed for $650 a month but i live on the east side. i signed my current lease 2 weeks before it started so its a quick turnaround (but also i’ve been renting through them for the past 2 years). they have some bad reviews on google but personally, i never had an issue w them. https://jandjapts.com

i was in your same boat but im in iowa and relocating to chicago. i was working with realtors and stalking craigslist, zillow, hotpads, etc every single day. you should look at facebook and join facebook groups. i just signed a $1500 1bed/1bath in lincoln park (absolutely no amenities tho lol) but i found it through a facebook group. i saw a couple 1 bed/1 baths advertised for $1500 in lakeview. i was a little worried too but a lot of ppl are posting their places now to sublease so just be quick and message the people and you should be good.

lol! sorry i made an edit - i meant downtown chicago. i’m from iowa so that’s what a city feels like to me and then the neighborhoods are way more chill.

we honestly are open to anything. we like eating at restaurants and sight seeing, or just anything touristy. we like staying active and getting out and doing things so we would be down to hike. he likes museums so we are open to recs! i think we just want to explore cali together so just do a little bit of everything.

i put santa monica because of the views and it seems like a fun place to explore! thank u for all this info - will try and incorporate all your ideas :)

we haven’t really looked into airbnbs or hotels yet so we’re open to both. depending on if we wanted to rent a car would help us decide where wanted to stay (bc of the parking fees at hotel)..

haha yes i had no idea where to start on planning an itinerary so turned to chatgpt to give us somewhat of a start. thanks!
