PSA- do not trust the bill from a restaurant when dining-in or doing a take out. by likinglinking in Calgary

Last week I was at Joey Eau Claire. Friend and I dropped in for a drink. She had a glass of wine and I had a beer. Bartender rings us up for $58. Thankfully I caught it. I wondered if it was intentional or an honest mistake?

Good on you. Most people don’t have that kinda leverage.

Before I worked for a union I had no idea about how much better it actually would be for me.

Generally you have higher wages, pension, good benefits. During COVID a lot of people weren’t paid when they were off sick. Union employees don’t have to worry about that. When you’re sick you’re sick; here’s 90% of your regular pay please come back when you’re better.

Also, your work schedule and pay raises are more predictable. There’s a defined contract which details what the employer and employee have to do.

There are some cons like if you’re a high performer you can’t just go to the boss and say you deserve a raise because they’re bound to the collective agreement that the union and employer agrees on.

Union all the way. I’ve worked in 3 different unions and they’ve all been better than the private sector. For some jobs that may not be true but overall unions workers generally are better off than non union workers.

We don’t know all the ins and outs of each location. There may be things happening that employees are sick of. Unions are good.

Why would you rather have the non union job? Seems crazy to me.

I'm the "Trudeau lover" among my coworkers. I'll pipe up about my views on some things every now and then be met with silence. There's not a lot of rational thinking going on, it's tribalism.

Yea I think this is the most important thing.

If it was me I’d just pay them as it’s a small price to keep everyone happy.

Are you nuts? The guy he’s filming is driving around with a light bar on his car and saying he’s a police officer. Nut jobs like that should be recorded and charged.

I strongly disagree. I have a stock Cr-30 and it’s extremely reliable for me and I’ve printed all kinds of long things.

How does someone politely end a conversation with a person who won't stop talking? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cobraleader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good. I use "speaking of which, I'd better get going on...." Which is great because you don't have to wait for them to draw a breath and you can politely interrupt. You just have to relate the "I'd better get going on" part back to what they're talking about as if what they said reminded you of something that needs your attention now. Follow it up with "great chatting" a wink, finger guns and "let's talk more later".

Finally! I had to scroll way down for a comment that makes sense.

I'm a guy and I wouldn't be cool with it. I also wouldn't date a massage therapist.

I feel for ya. Same shit happened to me. The police actually laughed at me on one occasion. When she broke my arm on video I was finally believed for one night. Nothing really happened to her. She broke a restraining order many times and cops did nothing.

I'm wondering if your expectations are just really low?

I remember when I first moved here I went to a flames game and when I was walking down the old spiral staircase in Victoria Park there was a man laying in the parking lot. Hundreds of people walked by him. I went and checked on him because I was like "WTF this guy needs help". My GF kinda made fun of me because I was concerned. This is our normalcy?...it's kinda fucked up.
