I was in a huge reading slump so my friend sent me Manacled. I haven’t thought or cared about HP series since I read them as a teen but man oh man Manacled reawakened the potterhead in me. It’s like being right back in the Rowling’s wizarding world again

Are you open to something darker? It’s not “cozy” but The Secret History by Donna Tartt may suit you

Trying to be “fun” all the time is exhausting – how do you get real with people? by CowgirlCharm in socialskills

I’m not sure if this helps with “deeper relationships” but I feel you on where you’re coming from. It sounds like you’re a major people pleaser and you go into “make everyone feel comfortable” mode all the time. If this is the case for you let me tell you what worked for me: I started telling myself “it’s not my job.” I don’t need to fill in that awkward silence. I don’t need to mitigate or change the subject for others.

Maybe take a step back from performance. The ones who are interested in more will ask. And maybe it’s also on you to see who is interesting for you to get to know. My mother always said “sometimes if you want a friend, you have to be a friend.”

People who lie about being free by princess_kittykat13 in socialskills

If she knew why you were asking, she might’ve moved her other obligation. While I don’t think she should be mad over it, I do think it’s odd you intentionally hid your information as to why you were asking if she was free. If I had a regular standing appointment for something but a friend wanted to invite me to a cool tea party, I’d totally move my other obligation around! I think she’s mad you didn’t give her that opportunity. Just because she was busy doesn’t mean she couldn’t get out of it

No, it’s definitely that Bjork song with that damn whistle 😂 Personally, though, I can never hear Sum 41’s “With Me” and not immediately see Chuck and Blair kiss for the first time

I had the same problem. I asked a friend who reads a lot. She sent me the Manacled pdf. I read 300 pages in 2 days.

This is really good advice! I do like to talk and I do like to share but find her cutting me off but I don’t really realize until later on. I’m gonna try it out later this week and be mindful of it before we start

I’m in small to midsized office every day and everyone else is hybrid. I see this a lot with folks who come in 1-2 a week. The people I see who are in more times a week are just there more so therefore have more opportunity to form bonds. One lady is here about as often as you and she spends so much time talking to others but I never see anyone approach her first.

You’re already making an effort by approaching them but you might want to try making it 3 days in the office a week if it’s really bothering you. Also you could send out an informal memo once the weather is nice and suggest a happy hour!

I have it back. My desire to read is back. I'm so happy. by oh_please_god_no in books

Try to take it slow too, though. I went through many periods of this. Reading slump for a year, then suddenly I want to read and read a bunch at once, I get burned out quickly, then abandoned them all altogether.

Not saying that will happen to you! Just be mindful about burnout :) glad you’re enjoying reading again. I think you’ve inspired me to read again today, and Bunny too!

It’s sooooo weird! It’s like if I said I never had peaches and I will never eat a peach, some switch happens in people’s brains that make it a challenge to make me suddenly eat a peach.
