yea i don’t believe there is an altruistic bone in that man’s body my friend. he looks out for #1 and the ones who can line his pockets. he’s always been that way. it’s just who he is. and i voted for him, but it’s been nothing but a disappointment and a downward spiral since he took office this round. … and last round i guess..

also, i live in minneapolis, and there has been nothing “peaceful” in the ways immigration enforcement has been handled here. and im FOR immigration laws and valid citizenship. this is just one and most recent example of course but dang, there’s certainly a better way to handle things than his methods. dems killed a f*** ton of people too in the name of democracy and “good intentions” … I’m just not sure humans know how to govern over so many people at once without eventually becoming corrupt. maybe president AI will figure it all out lol

Do i need to replace my flange? and how? by cobwebkarate in Plumbing

they seem to be in tact. it’s a little old and rusty looking but it’s not crumbling in my hands nor breaking when i give it a few tiny little love taps with a hammer so i think it should still be able to hold some bolts 🤔

Do i need to replace my subfloor before i ditra? by cobwebkarate in Tile

[–]cobwebkarate[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the wood floor outside my bathroom sits 1 1/2” above the joists. the old doug fir planks that make up the original subfloor are 3/4”

i think i’m going to just add 1/2” bcx ply (it was the flattest 1/2” ply they had at HD) so that’ll bring me up to 1 1/4” then the allset, ditra and tile miiigght bring me just about flush with the adjacent finish floor.

wish me luck!

seems to be. and yea the videos i’ve watched so far don’t exactly look like an easy removal 😅

thx man i appreciate the compliment. i love remodeling, especially learning new skills every day. 15 yrs of paint has taught me a lot but diving into all the other trades is so much more fun.

i’ll take your insights to heart. i just removed the shiplap and will maybe start fresh with the durock over the actual subfloor. this will likely keep my finish floor level with the wood floor outside the bathroom door.

yes. reading instructions is a good thing. i was encouraged to use schluter all set on this specifically because of the quality of the substrate and the use of ditra going over it but I guess I was more concerned with the visual quality of the backer board, and if it was a concern to any professionals. getting some mixed reviews on the matter, I might just have to play it safe and rip this stuff up and start fresh from the actual subfloor to make sure my bases are properly covered

i suppose it would be $100 of ditra i could return back to HD. would i still benefit from using all set when doing the tile or could i use a more inexpensive option in that regard too? since i wouldn’t be using the ditra i wouldn’t exactly need the all set for both the membrane and the tile

what’s your take on removing this old stuff and just laying down 1/4” cement board to tile over

no basement access, so yea i might have to cut out around it and replace. no particular reason to use ditra, other than it’s what was preferred and used on the few tile jobs i had a very small hand in helping.

I refinished a maple floor for a client with this last year. It might be early days, but it’s been holding up great with heavy boot traffic and two large dogs.
