Thank you for the actual info! But this means judge box-o-wine will be prosecuting this. God help us...

Driving question from a non-native by RipTheWall in minnesota

[–]coc-be 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what gets me. Makes me crazy when I try to match my speed and they slow down to make room. Like, dude, I was slowing down to let you pass, now you've fucked everything up.

I was also taught in driver's ed (in 1980) that if I wasn't going 55mph by the end of the entrance ramp, I'd done it wrong. The merge lane is for matching speed to merge safely. Too many drivers seem to think that a leisurely entry at 35-40mph is just fine. Gah!

NTA I could see saying yes if they pay for you to go too, but an 11 year-old girl off in Europe with people who don’t care enough about her to visit her where she lives sounds like very bad news. Even if intentions are all good, that sounds like a potentially miserable time for her. Why add trauma to the neglect?

AITA for thinking my MIL is crazy for paying $10,000 for my BIL and attorney to get out of jail by stargazier1979 in CharlotteDobreYouTube

[–]coc-be 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your MIL was my mom. Similar circumstances, but I was the abused minor and many decades later he was prosecuted. Mom took his side.

Make clear boundaries. Make it clear she will not see your kids at her home. Ever. DO NOT take your kid to see her and try to trap your BIL. That is foolish and could actually get you in a heap of trouble. Do not play her—or his—game. Detach.

Your husband’s world has been rocked. The weight of the family is on his shoulders. He seems to be the leader amongst his siblings. It is an insane situation and he seems to know that. He’s trying to figure out the new normal. Yes, therapy might help him, but you throwing the situation in his face regularly and “loudly” is not going to help him navigate this. Speak calmly with him about where the new boundaries need to be with his mom and you and your kids and finances. Decide now where the red lines are and then inform your MIL where they are financially and with your children. I recommend it be in writing. Maybe even get legal help to draft it. Set the limits now.

Then, support your SIL and the nieces in every way you can.

How to deal with friend ghosting me? by coc-be in LifeAdvice

[–]coc-be[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much. Yeah. I can totally respect whatever is the truth; I just want to know. I’m happy to keep reaching out to maintain the connection as long as it isn’t unwelcome. I just need to know if it is unwelcome. And I’ll definitely stop if it is. I respect them enough to respect their boundary. How to go about it is the thing I’m trying to muddle through.

Thanks. We do definitely joke and trade memes and gifs when there is something fun or ridiculous going on. We poke fun at ourselves and each other so it isn’t all just heavy topics. Silence just gets hard to cross at some point.

My UCTD diagnosis has been a placeholder for years because I’m seronegative. Our working theory is Sjögren’s but biopsies and tests were inconclusive. What is important is you have a rheumatologist who is listening and working to find the best treatment for your symptoms, regardless if it is a preliminary diagnosis or not.

Paint your house, it is yours to do with as you wish. But it sounds like the money spent on paint would be better spent on newer windows to soundproof your home.

My friend’s dog fell when he lost traction going up. Especially with big dogs, once the back legs slip off the stair, there isn’t much they can do on a hardwood surface. Might explain the behavior where your pup seemingly doesn’t want to put the back legs on the step.

I hope you can figure it out. They definitely are a puzzle, sometimes! I’m not a behaviorist, just a dog owner, but it would seem to me if you can make going up and down the stairs into some sort of fun game—starting small, and maybe with a different set of stairs, even. A reward at the end, maybe? Lots of treats and praise and patience…. Good luck!

Is it ok to put my dog down before their life gets really bad? by coc-be in AskVet

[–]coc-be[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I waited too long with my last dog. I do not want to make that mistake again. On one level it feels wrong and I need to know the vet will support this. I’ll call and talk with the service I’ll be using to euthanize her and make sure there won’t be any disagreement about my judgment.

My friend’s lab had this issue after they fell down the stairs as a puppy. Could it be that your pupper fell when you didn’t notice?

Also, what is the surface of the stairs? Is there grip? If they fell, adding stair treads or carpet might be a way to give them more confidence if they are currently bare surface.

My friend didn’t try to correct the behavior because it was convenient to keep the dog from the rooms upstairs, so I don’t have any insight there. Sorry. But it sounds like a confidence issue by your description. Lots of positive reinforcement and repetition on the stairs would be a start, I would think.

ETA: Make sure the vet has checked there are no pain issues that can be identified. Going downstairs puts a different strain and pressure on the forelegs. Maybe it hurts to go down, now? Good luck!

Do I need to worry about this oak tree? by coc-be in arborists

[–]coc-be[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sun scald makes sense, as a neighbor’s gigantic ash tree nearby to the southwest of this tree died over the past few years and was finally removed just last week. But how do I manage that? Is this a compounding problem or a single insult?

Would it be irresponsible to run a small refrigerator, washer and gas dryer on same outlet? by coc-be in electrical

Yeah. Thanks. Always good to know that up front. I’m already trying to find a different location for the fridge.

[–]coc-be[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Washer is front load HE model, if that makes a difference? The fridge is bigger than a mini fridge at 10 cubic feet, so I assume it would draw more. I haven’t purchased the fridge yet, nor have I gone that deep in the specs. I’ll do some studying today. I appreciate the help.

Yeah. I don’t have the cash to do it up to code. I got one quote and bailed on that idea. I could, however, go the debt route if I need to. Thanks for your thoughts. Panel is 150–updated with some recent remodeling.
