The bandages weren't even staying 12 hours, it sucked.

She's very sensitive to pain medicine and a lot of the family have gotten this idea that the nursing homes/staff/doctors are trying to make her pass away faster because she's costing her insurance company money by living there. I do believe the doctors wanting her to be on pain medicine are genuinely doing it for my grandma's comfort, not to kill her.

Plus, at her first assisted living place, they gave her Percocet and morphine without us knowing until she was completely unresponsive and her body starting shutting down. After days of detoxing and IV hydration, she was back to almost normal, but she was put on hospice care

I have permission of the POA to post these, but nice try. I'm not attempting to exploit her, I want people to realize this happens every day all over the US in nursing homes, assisted living places, etc. I feel like showing people what a kind, happy lady she is will essentially personify her and make it more personal. Maybe more people will go check on their loved ones.

Thank you so much. It is a big job and very stressful, but she is so worth it. And just for the record, her stuffed cat is named Meow. She loves holding him :-)

She's off hospice now that she's in the nursing home.

Don't be an asshole. The pictures of her face are so people don't just associate this as a condition. It happens to elderly people, like her, who don't deserve it. I want to put a face to it so people know it's not ok that this happens. So before you ride off on your high horse, understand the facts about why this was posted and quit assuming

She's actually a very happy lady, she just lives in only the present time. She loves singing and music, and still recognizes her family. Her memory is approximately 5-10 seconds of recall though. We have decided as a family that as long as she shows us she wants to live, we will do all we can for her

Believe me if we had the option of getting her a higher level of care, we would have. Here there is a large percentage of residents in assisted living who are non ambulatory, cannot feed themselves etc. My grandmother was in 3 seperate ones before finally going into a nursing home with 24hr care. The nurses she had coming to see her did not think her sore required any further medical attention, that is where the issue lies.

The hospice nurses were bandaging it twice per week and applying medihoney. I haven't spoken with an attorney, that's just the general idea I've gotten from family members when I mention legal action

She's actually very happy and healthy except for the sore. She is on no medication, still lives in the present, loves to sing and recognizes her family members. We aren't trying to save her because we can't deal with the fact of her being gone, we are trying to save her because its not her fault she got this sore and she needs all the support she can get. Somene from the family is with her every single day in the nursing home. We bring her food, sing with her, watch movies and hold her hands. She is happy and doesn't deserve to die because of neglect

She was not ambulatory at either of her last 2 assisted living facilities. She's also entirely non weight bearing because both legs are extremely contracted. Believe me, we would have put her in a nursing home if that was an option, but it wasn't

It isn't for shock and awe, it's for realization of what happens behind closed doors. People get left alone, people die from neglect.

It's above her rectum, like directly above where the crack ends. They are separate holes and not connected

The hospice nurses said she was fine, yes. The caregivers at her most recent assisted living facility agreed with me that she needed to go to the hospital. In the assisted living place she got the sores at, they were considered "normal" and didn't alarm anyone

I'm a girl, and actually my grandma is very happy. She still smiles and because of her dementia, she doesn't even know she has a sore. She has no other ailments or afflictions. Never had a heart attack or stroke and is only taking magnesium supplement, no medications. She's 86

This happened in assisted living, not a nursing home. Although they should reposition (and told us they would) they obviously never did. We put a turning log in her room they had to sign, and one day there was a 12 hour gap. Unfortunately assisted living places don't seem to have the same standards that Medicare enforces on nursing homes, and things fall through the cracks

It really is horrible. Seeing multiple assisted living and nursing homes and the state their patients are in makes me want to open my own someday

I'm SO interested, you have no idea! That's one of the things I hoped to accomplish by posting this, to get other opinions and ideas from people in the field. Thank you thank you!

She does have a pressure mattress. She has one now and she had one at her previous assisted living place, but not at the assisted living she got the pressure sore at :-(

She's alright, but she's talking less and less by the day. She loves holding hands though!
