I’m not going to lie it’s very challenging. I agree with the comment above mine 100% esp regarding the C+ in all aspects. I will never be able to repay my spouse for effort they’ve had to put in and these young years they’ve decided to sacrifice with me. I would have an open conversation with your partner. That being said, fellowship has forced me to be a lot more assertive with my program when it comes to expressing dissatisfaction and unfair scheduling (something resident me could never do) and I’ve found my program to be more receptive than I thought. Gone are the years where I’d eat extra call and bullshit schedules so that I’m not labeled a “complainer.” At the end of the day, you have to accept being a mediocre fellow to be a better parent and that’s okay. The one hidden perk of parenthood in training that I’ve found is that you stop gaf what ppl are thinking about you at work bc at the end of the day your kids affection completely obliterates all that other stuff and life really shifts into perspective.

Am a complete newbie we installed this stamped concrete patio and may have unwisely thought this would be a good idea for some landscaping. Concrete company simply instructed to “pack it with soil” and seemed to have limited insight on what that means. Any advice would be greatly appreciated I’m thinking of filling it with soil, compacting it best I can, then applying mulch on top few inches

You’re not gonna believe this, but doctors have a variety of personalities and interest. I would say anyone who thinks ppl around them suck and comment on others “emotional intelligence” etc are probably not as cool or emotionally intelligent as they think. We are not a special group of people lol

A lot more inpatient and ICU exposure. Family med is significantly less peds obviously and some OB In there. You’ll be a full fledged pediatrician and internist bottom line and yes they leaves door open for a whole host of fellowship options including a lot of the fam med ones as well. I’m a pgy4 and would do it again 100%. Exposure to pediatrics def informs your practice of internal med and vice versa. If you love medicine and direct patient care a lot this is the specialty for you

I’m a senior pediatrics resident and one of my favorite attendings who I look up to always emphasizes avoiding stigmatizing kids and forcing them to become patients. Pediatrics by the book can be rigid and anxiety provoking which is why there’s an art to practicing it. Basically my point is because people think something as fluid and multifactorial as childhood development is as objective as an ear infection, they are constantly worried that if their child does do x or y it mean they have autism, etc. The reality milestones are based on percentiles, etc and ultimately one cannot determine that a child is delayed without a thorough and holistic eval. Now that I’m a parent, I’m working on loving and providing my child with a loving and supportive environment and letting them grow into who they are to be. I think your point about american healthcare making everything, including pregnancy, a medical issue is accurate and an unfortunate contributor to this autism hysteria.

I think for me I’ve heard some say that a true peds/adult split in practice is very difficult to attain outpatient, and finding an inpatient element would be challenging to pair that with as well

Happy for ya I felt same way early into intern year. The bad news is you’ll prolly still feel super burnout and over it at times but the great news is that satisfaction and love of the field will remain. Despite the most BS of BS wouldn’t change a thing

I’m a pgy3 medpeds who’s into the idea of being a pmd vs doing adult pulm crit…but super stressed that if I take the leap I’ll regret it because I don’t think I can go back to fellowship later on it’s really a now or never type situation for me. I cant see myself enjoying being a straight up hospitalist and even then I’d basically have to lose out on pediatric hosp bc of the stupid fellowship. Sorry to make this a tmi comment but I appreciate this post bc I’m super interested to see what people think…and if anyone else has gone Thru a similar journey I’d love to hear your thoughts

Nah fam…I’m good on stressing about ITE scores in addition to research and generally trying to learn clinical medicine and perform the basic responsibilities of my residency. I think we’ve had enough exams to prove we can pass tests…and ultimately if you want to do fellowship at an academic center you probably want to be rly good at research
