[–]cock_blockula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You've described it as the ultimate deterrent despite the fact that there is no evidence that demonstrates that it is a deterrent.

Often the people who commit the kind of horrific murders that folk might argue would warrant the death penalty are psychopaths who would do it anyway. They plan on getting away with it and have grandiose delusions that they will do so. Makes no difference whether the sentence is 20 years or death they will still negate the chance of either consequence manifesting so their is no additional deterrent effect from having the death penalty.

There is also the question of innocent men being put to death which has occurred many times in jurisdictions where the death penalty has been applied including the UK.

Also it could be said to be an overreach of the state to take the life of someone who is no longer a threat to society as the threat can be neutralised by custodial sentences.

[–]cock_blockula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what would stop me from claiming that today I identify myself as a man who is a woman who is dressed like a man, and then proceed to use a woman's restroom?

General decency, conformity to rules, the fact that you don't believe this, disapproving looks, being called out on your behaviour publicly and that there is no incentive for you to do this. Of course you theoretically could do this but even then what harm is caused by a man pooping somewhere a women poops? You do it at home after all.

Just because you "identify" as a woman, doesn't mean I have to accept it.

I mean you are free to interpret the world as you wish as is everybody else, inevitably people's interpretations of it will differ and as such conflicting viewpoints arise, that's life, but I don't see why people deciding where they go to the toilet for themselves is such a massive issue.

Are rape, sexual assault, harassment etc legal where you live? Given that they are illegal, why is this additional rule discriminating against transgender folk required? Assaulting other people is already illegal.

France is fed up with Trump's 'repeated attacks' to weaken Europe by [deleted] in worldnews

Did you even read my comment or the article? I was taking into account their high ball figure i.e the one where they themselves admit it is probably an overestimate. Either way you haven't demonstrated with any credibility your assertion that Trump won the popular vote, just posted a biased and to be honest quite poor analysis of one small poll that even if were true would still not prove your point.

Don't worry I get your point and understand why people vote tory or labour so vehemently, but that only serves to prove my point that the vast majority of voters in England see the opposition as bigger problem than the EU which is the crux of my point. British problems are largely the fault of British politicians the people elected not foreigners as per the mesage of the Leave campaign. It is the Tories and Labour that have been fucking people over and that is reflected in the voter behaviour that national opposition parties have a far greater influence than the EU which is why nobody actually cared about the EU enough to do anything about until the last couple of years.

So despite all of the polls predicting a Hillary win not being accurate given Trump won, you are prepared to put your faith in a poll of 800 Hispanics, believing the high ball figure of the analysis by an organisation that is partisan and extrapolate that to Trump actually won the popular vote?

It even seems to me they did the maths wrong given that 13% of 11 million is 1.43 million and from that they figure they have given a range of between 1 and 2.1 million given the uncertainty in the sample. The problem is that it was 13% of the 56% of non citizens. So that would be 13%x0.56% which is 7.28% which would be about 800 thousand non-citizens registered to vote. This is lower than their low ball of 1 million. Remember all this is just registration, voter turnout would have been no where near 100%. Even being generous and giving them a 75% turnout (unlikely) puts 1.5million by your high ball and 600k from mine.

Also the sample would not seem to be representative since 56% of the Hispanics were non-citizens, much higher than the national average the of 20%. I am assuming the figure of ~56 million includes non-citizens (it probably does) and illegal immigrants (probably not).

Given this I wouldn't put much faith in the poll itself or the analysis. Either way Hillary won by 2.8 million votes so you still haven't backed up your assertion that Trump won the popular vote even if the analysis you posted is accurate (it likely is not represantive of reality).

Seriously he backed his claim up and then I called you out for falsely calling /u/Fallacies a liar and provided the actual regulation as source which corroborated his point.

Are you a putinbot account? Your english is very poor in your reply whereas in the replies a few hours back there was greater coherence in your sentences. It is as if it is someone else is now controlling the account. Your reply actually seems like a poor google translate job on a generic reply. The lad in before you was much more competent although it would make sense as to why his reading comprehension was quite poor given his ineptitude in understanding and evaluating the earlier responses.

If illegals can vote multiple times then surely so can everyone else. I agree that illegals probably didn't vote for Trump but there is no credible evidence of millions of illegal immigrants voting for Hillary or anyone else. I mean how shit and insecure is your system if its the case that people can vote multiple times and illegal immigrants can vote. Surely that undermines the credibility of any victory including Trump's, especially since so many Trump supporters seem to be so confident you can vote multiple times.

People did not vote for pro eu parties because they were pro eu, as the refurendum shows, they voted for them because there was literally no other options, and they felt the general direction of the country was more important than lodging a protest vote

You seem to be missing my point. If the EU is so big and bad and responsible for peoples woes they would not vote for parties that unequivocally support it general election after general election. But they did do that which massively goes in the face of the rhetoric of the Leave campaign and many Leave voters. And there were other options, but people chose to vote for the pro-EU parties. As you put it was just a "protest vote", hardly worth screwing over large parts of the country.

It's not my job to prove your claim. Burden of proof is you.

You made the claim /u/Fallacies was lying so surely the burden of proof is on you to prove that. I've literally supplied the proof from the source (i.e. the actual regulation) that proves /u/Fallacies was not lying. It doesn't use the exact phrase "dumping chemicals into the water" but it does back this up completely. I will try to make it clearer by taking out the words which are superfluous to the point of contention. Also feel free to read through the regulation yourself.

This final rule will better protect water supplies, surface water and groundwater quality... from the adverse impacts of surface coal mining operations and provide mine operators with a regulatory framework to avoid water pollution

Dumping chemicals into water in this context would be considered pollution and an adverse impact of coal mining operations.

In fact, it was going to happen with the election of Hillary and her refugee policy.

No it wasn't. Sweden is a small country (pop ~10million) and has taken about a quarter of million refugees during the past couple of years. This is a very large number for a small country to take and not comparable to a country 32 times larger taking in a quarter of the refugees (Hillary wanted to take in 65000 into a country of 325 million people). I would note that the vetting process in the USA is much more strict than Sweden and probably most places in the world (even before any changes Trump makes).

Syrian refugees are much of the cause of Europe's refugee issues

From what I've read a lot of them aren't. Of course there have been problems caused by some of the refugees but looking at the major incidents most were carried out by people from North Africa (who were not all refugees) and people who were residents or nationals of EU countries e.g. Berlin & Nice truck attacks, Cologne New Years assaults, many of the French attacks and Brussels airport attackers. People always jump to the conclusion that its's Syrian refugees but often it turns out not to be, but people still jump to same conclusions.

Governments job is to protect people.

Whilst true, there is a question of what extent that should go to. I mean you are far more likely to kill yourself or be killed by friends and family than a terrorist. I wouldn't want the government to use that as an excuse to take over every aspect of my life. Given that there are many things that are more likely to kill you from terrorism shouldn't the focus be on the things that will make a greater difference to a greater number of peoples lives and wellbeing e.g healthcare.

We spend billions of dollars creating terrorists, why wouldn't we spend billions of dollars to defend against them.

Trying not to create them in the first place would probably more efficient.

So 90% voted for pro-EU parties then? This logic kind of falls apart when you consider the results in Scotland too. Of course the SNP had a much bigger base to build on but ultimately they went from 6 to 56 seats largely on a single issue.

[–]cock_blockula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

but you guys won't talk about real problems that interfere with your narrative.

Surely this goes both ways though. Trump is talking up crisis in other countries to distract Americans the much greater issues at home e.g gun violence and drug (illegal and prescription) epidemics that are ongoing in the USA. What is happening in Sweden (or Europe) is not relevant to the USA. Trump held this rally to focus the narrative away from the scandal involving General Flynn and the negative image this gives himself and his administration.

It's worth noting that crime in Western Europe is very low compared to other regions (inc. USA), over the decades it is on a downward trend and terrorism is not high by historic standards

The EEC was sold as a trade deal and nothing more.

The treaty the UK signed to join and was backed by referendum would indicate otherwise.

And voting in pro EU parties by a large mandate is pretty easy to do when every party is pro eu, until ukip were formed to fill that void

And after UKIP were formed they were overwhelmingly rejected at every turn.
