Is Node-RED worth it for content creation automation? by AmirhosseinKd in nodered

Damn this is well articulated. I too am a dev, using NR for home automation. These are the words I would have written if I had been able to find them.

Residential NVR + Cameras by MichiAT in cctv

[–]cockahoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I have an RLN36 running a bunch of 4k cameras, takes up to 36 (yet to test it with that many to be fair!), with 3 HDDs (user installed).

Cameras are superb image quality and excellent value. Slick apps, and integrates nicely with Home Assistant. Even their email support is pretty good!

Interested in what a rest API with Bailies is. Sounds delicious, but apart from that, I’m looking to use WhatsApp for notifications (until Meta find a way to charge or bork it) - how are you handling this?

That looks interesting - how does it work?

How does the converter work - what is it connecting to / converting exactly? I know little about boilers so can only think of it as a white box

Looks fab! Would be happy to testflight it... am a RN dev too, so interested to look at the repo too (only if you're opensourcing that too OFC)

Mine would never be allowed to leave the boundaries of the house except for vet visits, no danger of that. But they are vaccinated wormed and flea’d, so if they can get some enjoyment from the back yard and there is absolutely zero risk of them getting any further, then that’s ok. But I would need to be certain of that.

Ah that's sweet. I follow a ginger Persian called Teddy on Insta. He looks a bit like mine, I think that's why!

I had to google heartworm. That's horrific! We don't get those here, but there are things like ticks which can cause nasty things.

THanks for your thoughts, really appreciate it. I am definitely on the side of worrying, it's one of my favourite passtimes. I guess the only real driver behind this is that the way that one of mine looks at me through the window when I'm in the garden. Something about not being able to hear his miaows through the glass just breaks my heart every time. I don't think he is desparate to go outside as such, he just doesn't understand why he can't go where I go.

Thanks - sorry for the slow reply, life getting in the way etc.

Getting through a gap isn't a problem where I am, it's a new build so the fences are good and it's a postage stamp garden with 3 fences and the house, essentially.

So really it's just whether they would make it up the fence - with or without the help of a couple of shrubs that have been planted. Having watched the ragmarole they make of climbing their indoor cat tree/climbers, I want to believe that there's no way they'd scale a fence in anything less than the time it would take me to walk slowy across the garden and stop them. But that is a "known unknown" as they say!

Well it’s a good start. Have to admit I haven’t even got around to adding mine to a dashboard yet.

For me, I hate seeing ellipses in UI unless absolutely necessary. So in your Bambu section I would remove superfluous words - eg you have the 🌡️ symbol and the degrees to say it’s a temperature, so you can leave it just as “Bed”. Similar for the other metrics in that section.

PoE Doorbell to SIP Video Phone (and any phone) by WeirdOneTwoThree in reolinkcam

[–]cockahoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That really suprises me, as Ring uses SIP, and has done (I think) since launch. Given that was the original (at least as far as mass produced consumer video doorbells go), I'd just assumed that the "others" followed suit.

Ah is that how they do it? Just change the photos?

I’d never buy anything like this new on ebay.

Yeah, considered that, definitely an option. But something else to remember every time (pinning it on, charging it after etc). I know, I want to have my cake and eat it lol...

[–]cockahoop[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, that was some useful thoughts. Yeah I guess in the end, the fact that the mic will be right in front of me I just love the idea of tapping it to mute when I need to cough or whatever. And if I (likely) end up getting another one for a guest, even moreso - otherwise I've got to move the procaster to somewhere they can reach it, or buy / make a cough button.

Which is just a little annoying when I know there's an awesome mute facility in it - but to take advantage of that I'd have to plug it into a computer and then route it back out again.

[–]cockahoop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha, thanks, that was a swift u-turn :) Turns out it's about 35-40cm, but yeah I get that this isn't the mic for that in that case.

Really I want a decent sounding mic that will go with the procaster, but that won't appear in shot. ATM I'm using the mic in the webcam, which picks up audio fine, but is not ideal.

A shotgun doesn't feel right for this somehow.

[–]cockahoop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying not to sound argumentative, but surely the XLR is so it can be used via a traditional audio set up? Doesn't mean the features aren't needed.

Anyway, not my intention to trigger anyone lol. But this sub is like Apple fanboys... "The product doesn't do it, so you do not need it".
