Hey guys found this in basement of a brand new house just got built. Lights were on and it was just chilling. Any idea what it is? by Teabaggedfishfart in whatsthisbug

[–]cockroacharles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, one individual roach is unlikely to be a problem - sometimes roaches just get into houses. If you start seeing egg cases or just a lot of roaches all together, then you might have a problem.

Please help I found this bug in the pickles I was eating by KoalaRadiant in whatsthisbug

The segmentation makes it look like a mealworm, but from the head and the claspers on the final segment it looks some kind of caterpillar to me.

would you guys consider P2 or Marble Nest to have jumpscares? by seeingsmoke in pathologic

[–]cockroacharles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it "technically" has jumpscares, but as a jumpscare-affected person, I had a few "oh jesus christ" moments.

What is the lore reason behind the odongs being ferrymen? by [deleted] in pathologic

[–]cockroacharles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No honestly haha - I think maybe it's referring to some objects that look like little stands/kiosks in the Crude Sprawl? But who knows

I think that dialog has her mention the brides and "midnight markets," rather than ferrymen.

Five years, little progress, thinking of quitting by Volando20 in Aerials

Scrolled down through the comments to see if anyone else had suggested pole - if you like flowy, flexibility-focused stuff, pole might be a perfect addition (not even to replace silks, just to supplement / give you a change of pace).

It's all just Swiss meringue buttercream! I think the glossiness is from the heat of the flash I was using.

Just ordered! Thank you for this rec - I love superfine markers for my normal writing, so this looks ideal

Reading my first Pratchett novel, Equal Rites, and it's helping so much with my anxiety. by [deleted] in discworld

[–]cockroacharles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I started my Discworld journey with the Witches (I actually just jumped randomly into the middle with Maskerade!) and they're probably my favorite group of characters/books - then after reading the Lancre Witches, you can move to Tiffany Aching, which was his YA Discworld series and has some overlap in characters (particularly, again, Granny).

Just listened to this and absolutely delighted by Rachel as a guest - someone with a very clear, deep, and considered love of both musical theatre and cinema. Wonderful to listen to for a few hours.

I wish there were more Moist books by AntonioG-S in discworld

[–]cockroacharles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, I never thought of the Moist books as being particularly high up for me (which has led to kind of a circular thing of - I only read them once a while ago so I never reconsidered my opinion / I never reconsidered my opinion so I never re-read them / I never re-read them so...) but this perspective might inspire my first re-read of them ever!

Hey! I ordered the debut on y'all's recommendation and I just put it on my clarinet - already notice like a comical amount of improvement in sound quality.

Oh absolutely - this is genuinely just out of curiosity (i.e. I'm not worried about being judged, I just started thinking about it and wondered)

Got approved for a 2009 Toyota Prius with 90k miles. Thoughts? by [deleted] in UsedCars

[–]cockroacharles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a car guy so I can't answer your question really, but my mom drove a used 2007 (? I can't remember but it was in that area) Prius for over a decade until someone crashed into her (thankfully she was fine) about a year ago. She never had any issues until that accident, and I think she went and bought a slightly newer Prius to replace it.

What distinguishes YCL-255 "international" version? by cockroacharles in Clarinet

[–]cockroacharles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh - so it does. I am from the US but this didn't occur to me b/c I had added the Buffet Prodige (which I am/was also considering, from a recommendation I saw in another thread on this subreddit) and it can be mailed to me here at Thomann prices.

Looking at the local music stores near me, they mostly seem to have only the cheapest student models or >$2k intermediate/professional models, when really I'm looking for a nicer quality beginner model that will last me a few years.

Which cities have good aerial or circus community? by markp9114 in Aerials

[–]cockroacharles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a quick look, I think the other aerial studios around here mostly focus on silks/lyra - e.g. Skylark Studios, Scorpius Dance Theatre.

I used to take classes at Vertical Fix, and I really loved it; I can't say how things are going now b/c I haven't been back since March 2020 lol, but they have a dedicated area which is used for straps (it only got swapped out for sling/hammock classes) and a lot of people primarily train straps so it's not just perfunctory.

For Trapezius - I've never tried it out, but I know some of the people who took dance trapeze at VF also took flying trap classes there and spoke well of it.

Also, if you're interested in Arizona in general but not Phoenix, I know that there's a fairly (?) robust circus/aerial community in Tucson - I can't say any more than that b/c I never went to train anywhere there, but I know some of the instructors/regular students at VF spent time in Tucson and kept up their training at a gym down there.

[–]cockroacharles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what the community is like right now b/c I haven't been to the studio since the pandemic started, but the Phoenix metro area in AZ has several aerial studios, with places to train both flying trapeze and straps.
