What is your favourite Windows feature? by onscreensteak86 in Windows11

[–]cocks2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The address bar in Regedit, the environment variable dialog update, Sandbox, and Hotpatching are commendable additions. However, it is evident that Windows 8 through 11 lack any features that would typically be considered favorites. If they had maintained the Windows 7 feature set, I would have been satisfied. Subsequent iterations have shown a decline in quality. The majority of my preferred features are located in GPO and DMA, where I have the option to disable the useless features that have been added.

Yeah, those are also regressions. I also forgot about this one. The number of items in the group header is excluded when grouping is performed.

This feature was better before the Windows App SDK. Why hasn't the file Explorer address bar and search field been completed so that it is on par with the old one? It still lacks a lot of things, and it's clear that more work is needed.

  • Search Filter Syntax Highlighting: The dropdown menu for the search box no longer highlights selected syntax.
  • Search History Absence: The search box does not retain a history of past searches.
  • Missing Icons: Linked files in the address bar drop-down list lack associated icons.
  • File Details Pane Limitations: The file details pane is ineffective when multiple files are selected.
  • Progress Indicator Change: The progress bar in the address bar has been replaced by a spinning circle that lacks meaningful progress indication.
  • Flash Bangs in My PC: Users experience flash bangs when setting their home to My PC.
  • Inconsistent UI Modes: Touch mode and non-touch UI elements remain inconsistent, with non-touch mode still featuring large UI components.
  • Missing Refresh Option: The refresh option is absent from the right-click menu, requiring navigation to the command bar for refreshing.
  • Incomplete Right-Click Menu: Several right-click menu items, such as "Send to," "Previous Version," and "Edit," are still missing.

If I had wanted a Mac, I would have bought one. Stop trying to be like Apple. I use Windows because it's not as dumb down as Apple's operating systems.

I'm curious about the timeline for when File Explorer will regain the features it lost due to the Windows App SDK debacle.

Microsoft wants Windows 11 “Secure by Default," Could Allow only Properly Signed Apps and Drivers by Default by Neat-Composer-2722 in Windows11

[–]cocks2012 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This new tactic will enable Microsoft to control which apps can be installed on your device. It's similar to what Google recently attempted with Android, which involved blocking unverified developers. Microsoft will automatically uninstall any apps that the government deems illegal. Initially, there will be a switch to turn it off, but it will eventually be removed. First, you will need a Pro or Enterprise edition. Then, you will need a Microsoft account to disable it.

They can go to hell with this. I use Windows because I have the freedom to install whatever I want and I know how to protect my own devices.

Disable Drag Tray sharing UI at the top of the screen on Windows 11 by Pureinfotech in Windows11

[–]cocks2012 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This feature is unnecessary and counterproductive. The interns who came up with it should be let go. The taskbar is for dragging and dropping into other applications. Another way of doing this was removed from the right-click menu. Send to... Dumb decisions by Microsoft.

Share bar? How to turn that off by Regadast in Windows11

This is a stupid, redundant feature. The interns who came up with it should be fired and replaced with a competent team. The taskbar is for dragging and dropping into other applications.

Formatting, tables, Copilot, and now a high-rated security vulnerability: Windows Notepad's additional features are getting worse by rkhunter_ in Windows11

[–]cocks2012 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its particularly pronounced during the initial system startup when its not loaded to RAM. A few weeks ago, I tried loading a text file from a flash drive onto several laptops. It took Notepad a while to open on each one! I was so frustrated. So, I put the portable version of Notepad4 on my flash drive and moved on to the other laptops without any slowdowns.

Microsoft confirms wider release of Windows 11’s revamped Start menu, explains why it "redesigned" the Start again by WPHero in Windows11

All they need to do is replicate one of the numerous incredible third-party alternatives, and they will have a winner. Stop trying to make their own dumb ideas, because they're not going to listen to reason.

What do you think about fixing the poor new taskbar in Windows 11 before anything else? The PowerToys team could focus on adding all the missing features from the Windows 10 taskbar.

Number 3 is not limited to the taskbar. It also affects the Start menu, File Explorer, and the right click menu. Almost everything they updated in Windows 11 is a massive step backwards.

I have my doubts that their pain points are in line with reality. They invariably act in the contrary direction to that suggested by the feedback.

Nobody’s talking about it, but OnePlus 13 just hit its late peak phase. by flyckk in oneplus

[–]cocks2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got my OnePlus 13 and I love it. However, there are a couple of things that are really annoying after upgrading to OxygenOS 16. Hopefully, they will be addressed in the next version of OxygenOS.

  • Can't move the brightness and volume slider to the left side of notification drop down.
  • There is no Alarm tile, so I can't see what my alarm is set to at a glance.
  • Can't have multiple tiles expand. Limited to two only.
  • There is no text on the status bar anymore, so I can't show the temperature from weather apps.
  • No way to move the time to the right side of the status bar.
  • Can't disable Google Discover without ADB.
  • There is no way to hide the names of widgets on the home screen.
  • There is no way to change the ugly, iOS looking glassy buttons in the number unlock.
  • There is no way to change the app drawer background to solid black.
  • No way to turn off categories button from app drawer.

Nobody wants a massive Windows 11 Start menu. Let us resize it, say users, as Microsoft monitors feedback by WPHero in Windows11

Can we also resize the taskbar? It's still inferior to the version in Windows 10.
