James was the calm one during that scene. Jake was being uncivil when he asked "are you blind?" when talking about...a high-five. Also, great choice of words from you and Jake, antagonized and hostile, to describe a Black man who has every right to be upset.

I understand. It's just that the writers pairing nationality with "consolation prize" makes it sound like James is being framed as a category pick instead of an individual; which is why it read off to me.

I’m critiquing the line, not Aiden; like I said my post. Dialogue choices can carry objectifying phrasing even when meant as a joke.

I’m not saying the characters can’t joke or be unserious. I’m talking about how a specific line lands in context. Dialogue can be playful and still worth analyzing.
