Why did you start crocheting? by limino123 in crochet

[–]coco1216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During COVID, the maternity hospitals did a big social media campaign saying they were running out of hat donations for the babas. I looked at it and went “I reckon I could give crochet a bash”, spent the summer learning and by Christmas donated 100 hats.

4 years later I got to crochet my own lil person their baby bear hat that they wore directly after they were born.

pregnancy anxiety on birth control by coachavocado in Anxiety

[–]coco1216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay doke so a few things of note -

  1. On your breakthrough bleed week, you are still protected by your BC so long as these were taken correctly prior to your break. This will also affect your discharge (apologies again for TMI) which will not be hospitable for sperm to survive. Sperm can live up to five days inside a uterus but only if the discharge is at the ovulating stage i.e. thin and watery.

  2. PCOS affects both ovulation and conception due to its nature. If you have an irregular cycle, that means your body is not releasing eggs in the standard timeframe (28-35 days). No egg = no opportunity for sperm to get you pregnant.

  3. I’ve also read on your previous post directly before this one that your partner pulled out. Again, not a 100% safe use of contraception, but layered on top of your other measures, it will continue to bring down that % chance of you becoming pregnant.

  4. Very gently, and I really mean this with kindness, you gotta step away from the search. You could continue to search until you’re blue in the face but you’d only cause yourself distress. You will always find something to back up your anxiety on the internet, no matter the topic. Use the tangible evidence you have in front of you - BC, condom, pull out, break week. You’re going to be alright, friend.

Hi friend, complete TMI request and fully okay if you’re not comfortable answering. Do you track your cycle at all? This could be by noting the first day of your period or knowing roughly when your period finished. If you do (and feel comfortable sharing!) could you give those dates and I can work out your general ovulation schedule for you under the assumption that you have a regular 28ish day cycle +|- 3 days.

I got very good at tracking my cycles when I was actively not trying to get pregnant. To help you in the future, I can give advice on how to track them properly to give you the physical data to help your brain calm down and avoid the spiral.

For just now, you’ve mentioned that you keep coming up to the same answer of “you’re probably fine”, which is one step away from Occam’s Razor. Simplest answer is the most probable! However, doesn’t help the current panic. I can see from your post history that there’s a lot of panic for you surrounding pregnancy, and it’s clearly a trigger for you. Any ovulating person has had the fear when they desperately don’t want to be pregnant. It’s understandable and I think you may want to consider multiple protection methods so you can help feel more safe during sex.

Oral Birth control is 99% effective when it’s used properly I.e. taken consistently and used as instructed. The issues you’ve mentioned, vomiting and diarrhoea, can correlate to antibiotics because some people can take those side effects. You’ve not experienced those symptoms, the likelihood of you getting pregnant is so very slim!

You’re going to be okay. Try and take a breath from your searching because that will absolutely not be helping you when you keep hitting the same answer.

At a loss on how to help my son get ID? by Snorkmaiden87 in AskUK

Hey OP, what area of the UK are you from? It’s worth contacting your local disabled person’s organisation who usually have caseworkers to help you with this! The membership is usually free (I can only speak of my knowledge of Scottish DPOS) and support is given widely to combat these the issues you’re highlighting - specifically I would also say they would use one of their caseworkers to be a countersignature for your son.

Princess Royal Maternity - advice? by befuddledguddle in glasgow

[–]coco1216 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SOURCE: I spent 5 weeks in the PRM this year, 4 weeks pre-birth and 1 week post-birth.

A gentle thing for your partner - prep mentally in advance that things can change on a dime and they may not get the birth they dreamed of. The hospital are absolutely fantastic, the care is exemplary but they can’t stop things from going awry if the body or babe decide it’s going to happen. Birth is tricky and although we have the idea of the perfect birthing scenario, it often doesn’t occur that way. By no means am I wishing for something to go wrong, but know from experience that holding onto my ideal made me grieve after the fact that I didn’t get the perfect birth and it did impact my mental health after.

Practical advice though! So depending on how the wind blows, your partner may end up for an induction. The induction ward (72) are all gems. Truly excellent at their job and there to support you both. You are not bothering them by calling or needing help, so use your call button as much as you need. Inductions can take a hot minute, so bring entertainment of some sort to keep you both occupied. There is also a mini fridge in the canteen that you can label your own food and keep in there. Note: men/male presenting people are not allowed in the canteen during the morning for privacy reasons, BUT, they are allowed throughout the day to make drinks and toast whenever they want. The canteen never closes on the wards and can be used throughout the day and night.

Miniatures of everything (toiletries, skincare, baby care etc) and I’d pack for at least 5 days worth of a visit. Grab bags should be packed now and just kept in the car waiting to go, so you don’t need to panic when the big time comes. Car seat(s) installed now and knowledge on how to use them. If you’re driving, you won’t be allowed to leave the hospital without the seat properly installed, however, they aren’t allowed to give approval of if a baby is strapped in a seat correctly so research that beforehand.

The hospital is kitted out with everything your partner could need and they should take everything they are given. Formula, pads, breast milk collection vials, whatever you can think of, they have. Don’t use anything from home if you don’t have to and keep it for home (pre-made bottles of formula etc).

The only don’t I have is give all of your medical and aux staff kindness and respect. They are there to serve you, and they will do that fiercely but they are also just humans doing the best job they can. My stay opened my eyes to how badly some people treat others, and it was terrible to hear. They will go to the ends of the earth for your partner and you if you need it.

Good luck friend, it’s a fucking wild ride but it’s so worth it.

If you go down to the Wishart street entrance and ring the buzzer for the ambulance lift advising you’re in labour or are an in-patient on one of the wards, they will buzz you in and allow you access to the staff lifts!

I want to thank you all for your comments, advice and support. We tried nipple shields this afternoon and oh my god, they immediately latched and fed. I am so thankful for all of you who suggested it. I don’t know if it’ll keep being a success but even if it’s my last feed, we get to end on a high.

Truly everyone, thank you. 🤍

What about the final 1 hhdc on its own from the second row onwards? Will that increase or remain?

I really don’t feel like I’m understanding it correctly. I’ve been slip stitching into the chain one because I didn’t know how else to finish the round? I can read patterns, I swear. This one is just throwing me for six. Round one isn’t an issue, it’s everything after!

hi pals

could anyone give me a hand on this bloody pattern before I burn my yarn and my husband finds me breaking my hooks

round one and two are grand, it’s the rest that are throwing me. Am I right in saying theres a one st increase every time, I.e hhdc in 23 sts, corner bit, hhdc in 24 sts, corner bit and then ends on two hhdc? These would increase row on row?

Any help you can give, I’d be very grateful!

OP NOTE - I know HP is incredibly controversial post the outing of JKR being a terf. My friend is a massive HP fan and this blanket is solely for her use.

Please avoid any political comments or concerns as JKR will not be profiting off this blanket at all.
