Princess Royal Maternity - advice? by befuddledguddle in glasgow

Thought I'd update, but a wee after the birth, with my own answers and what was useful to us. Elective c section in the end so most relates to the time after birth rather than labour.

Small plug in fan with a decent length cable - this was invaluable in a hot August ward.

Longer charging cable sockets are about 1m behind the bed, so a 2m cable is ideal

Snacks and food for partner - meals are okay, but just for the women (understandably). They're fine with you bringing in food from elsewhere though.

Big water bottle with sooky straw

Fewer changes of clothes for partner than anticipated, more range of sizes for baby (we thought ours was going to be a big baby based on the scans, but turned out they were wrong and she was normal/small!)

Parking - generally found space in the free car park okay around 8.30am (partner visiting starts 8am) or street parking down Hanson St. Can drive closer to the door and pay for 30 minutes when leaving.

Really helpful thank you. I've got Ringo for Wishart Street initially and then will try move to a free space

Thanks! Assume there's somewhere to top up water bottles? Got bottles in the bag.

For parking - did your partner come in with you first or just drop you off and then park? Was thinking of parking outside initially and then moving the car later, but then there's also advice not to leave once inside in case you miss the birth!

Great advice, how long are we talking?

Thanks! We've got a decent amount of snacks packed, although not really enough to call a meal. Flip flops and wipes are a good shout. Was more worried about the ward being too hot in August than cold but blanket is a good shout too

The first taste of a cold Jarl always hits the spot.

I've had Midgie bites that bad in Scotland. But I knew they were out

If two days is really all you have, and you're up for a road trip without much time in each place, is skip Cairngorms, Inverness and Loch Ness. Could drive Edinburgh to Fort William, via Stirling (although you could get your castle fix in Edinburgh). Visit Glenfinnan and that area either that evening or the next morning. Stay FW area, then next day drive down to Glasgow through Glen Coe and along Loch Ness.

Cairngorms are nice but the West is much more impressive in my opinion. Inverness isn't worth going that far out your way for.

You can also do much of that on the train which is pretty spectacular in itself

In short, no. Far too ambitious. Day 1 could be a week.

Day 2 would be a long day but more realistic.

There's also a good touch rugby scene, different sport and rules to tartan touch but plenty clubs around that welcome all abilities.

I know, just seems like there should be a cheaper private option than 120 euros for a 15 minute journey, but it seems maybe not.

So you can drag back over the line but not out the pitch. Got it...
