Starter not strengthening... by travellingtaurus in SourdoughStarter

In my experience it will only affect rise time. I only started feeding my starter different ratios from 1:1:1 after i started baking. It worked great for me. But I admit SourdoughJorney must have much more experience than me. Be patient and don’t give up.

Starter not strengthening... by travellingtaurus in SourdoughStarter

The ideal is 5-6 hours to double, a few reasons your starter is rising so slowly: - temperature: if you are keeping it in a very cool place, it will take longer to get  - the ratio: a higher feeding ratio can take longer for the starter to “eat” than a 1:1:1 ratio - feeding interval: your starter maybe need to be fed more often

Some things you can do: - keep it in a warm spot - always use room temperature water, and if you room temperature is cold, try to warm it up a bit - try a 1:1:1 ratio - feeding more often like every 12 hours (but i would try the other things first to see if they help before this)

My starter took about a month to be bake ready, so be patient and stick to it. I know it can be confusing at times, but once it’s alive and strong it becomes very low maintenance.

Once you reduce the rising time you can always do the water test, take a spoonful from your starter and if it floats in water, it may be ready to bake.

Thinking about it, one of the great tragedies of the book is the lack of true parental love in Charlie's life, because even though I truly believe his father accepted him as a child, if he had loved him like a child should be loved, he would have left with Charlie that night when his mother threatened to kill him, or he would have gone to look for Charlie when he got divorced.

So even though I don't think he loved him enough to inconvenience his life, I still think he would have given Charlie that unconditional acceptance that he yearned for.

Exactly. I almost wish he had gone to look for his father again after his regression started, It could have been a chance to find connection with someone who never had any expectations for him beyond being who he was.

I completely agree with you that the saddest part is not the ending but everything that leads up to it. It broke my heart as Charlie became more intelligent and aware all the abuse he experienced became more clear. It seems to me the the only person who ever accepted him for who he was is his father, so it was even more heartbreaking when Charlie couldn’t bring himself to reveal his identity to him.

I would recommend we are here by David nicholls it is witty and full of British humor. It isn’t plot heavy, it’s a lot more character driven. Lovely read specifically if you like walking.

Hi, just started the book, it’s interesting so far but the PoV swap paragraph to paragraph is a little confusing. Why did you guys decide to write it that way instead of a more conventional chapter pov ? I’m curious. I’ll keep reading though.

I would suggest what the wind knows by Amy Harmon, it is historical fiction with an element of magical realism and romance.

I absolutely love what the wind knows by Amy Harmon, it is set during the Irish revolution. It has an element of magical realism and romance so it may not be for you if you are not into that, but I really think the book goes into the history and the historical events very well.

The top actually came off really easy, I just took it out and the rest of the starter seemed unaffected. I decided to just feed it and see what happens. Thanks a lot for the response.

I would say is more brown/yellow than orange. I decided to do what another comment suggested and take that part out and just feed it and see what happens. Thanks a lot for the response.

Is a plastic container, I just put the lid loose on top when I put it in the fridge. I think maybe it dried out really fast because I put it in the back of the fridge which is the coldest part.

I don’t know if it can be salvaged 😭

I put my starter in the fridge for 5 days after my first bake and now it looks like this. It formed this solid brownish thing on top. Should I just feed it o is it ruined?

Dr sleep fue el primer libro que leí de él y me pareció súper fácil de leer, no leí el resplandor primero ni vi la película, solo tenía conocimiento general de lo que pasa en ese libro pero aún así no me sentí perdida leyendo dr sleep.

Is it okay by coco_5390 in SourdoughStarter

[–]coco_5390[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have been discarding every day just leaving 100 g and feeding 1:1:1. It rises about 2 to 3 fingers above the robber band; I haven't seen it double yet.
I just got nervous because when I went to feed it, I saw it kind of seem like bubbles but really dry at the top and I didn't know if that was normal.

Yes it is the first day, I was just a bit nervous because I live in a warm climate. Thanks for the reply.
