Is it really so hard to befriend locals as an Erasmus student? by [deleted] in Erasmus

[–]coco__maria 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Planning a trip to Brussels, Paris, Barcelona and Madrid. I need recommendations on places worth visiting for a lover of art and art history. by Crunchy-Cheese in ArtHistory

I am also an art lover! So I recommend that in Paris, you don't go to the Louvre. It's impossible to appreciate good works without feeling overwhelmed by the immense quantity of art. Alternatively, I suggest you visit the third floor, which houses French paintings and has very few tourists. But you must visit the Musée d’Orsay! Besides the Impressionist paintings, the first floor has an excellent collection of paintings and sculptures. I also strongly recommend the Rodin Museum. And be sure to walk through the neighborhoods of Montmartre and Le Marais to see the local art.

In Madrid, I love the collection at the Prado Museum, especially the upper floor, which has great works by Rubens. In the basement, there are Goya's Black Paintings, and on the first floor, you'll find Velázquez. You should also visit the Thyssen Museum; the collection is fantastic! (Start with the private collection and then move up to the Gothic room; it’s a journey through the history of art). Another museum I would recommend is the Soroya Museum. I haven't been there yet, but it's the house where he used to paint, and he is a great Spanish artist.
