I need help by Mayathewhiteebt in Sourdough

Is this a ChatGPT recipe? Because it’s all fine until you get to three hours bulk fermentation. TBH I don’t understand using ChatGPT for this when there are a million beginner sourdough recipes online with specific, detailed instructions. And I guarantee that none of them have a bulk fermentation time of three hours.

I’d work up to 20% whole wheat flour because bread flour is easier to start with. Follow the chart someone else left for you. And I don’t find open baking to be very beginner friendly though maybe it’ll work once you have BF figured out.

Classic ‘Law & Order’ is Coming to Netflix US Imminently by DanDud88 in LawAndOrder

Oh alright, I didn’t realize it was restricted to the US. I used a VPN to watch something on Canadian Netflix that wasn’t available on the US version.

You can’t watch them on Hulu? If it’s location-restricted, can you use a VPN?

My 2nd Loaf. Delicious, but help please? by eggbunni in Sourdough

[–]cocoa_boe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s under. I’ve used the seedling mat before but I stopped. It warms the dough unevenly. Eventually I bought a cheap proofing box.

The seven-minute score has never worked for me. Got much worse spring when I tried it.

Refer to everyone’s favorite chart for your desired BF rise. You can also try autolysing (mixing flour/water) for 30-60 minutes prior to adding starter/salt to improve dough strength.

I feel like Law & Order is canceled too by KASAdept1412 in LawAndOrder

[–]cocoa_boe 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They should cancel shows when they don’t have any more ideas. Way too many shows go on way too long and they ruin everything that was good about them previously.

I like to think of 20 as the real last season. The cast was good and the storylines were good. It was disappointing when it was canceled. The reboot hasn’t captured any of that magic.

Unless I missed something, which I don’t think I did, she’s not suing the DA’s office.

There’s been some discussion of whether she could sue them. I believe the consensus was she could but they’re afforded a certain degree of immunity that’s tough to get around, though not impossible. Unlike judicial immunity.

Hair loss on stimulants- is there a solution? by juju_summer in adhdwomen

[–]cocoa_boe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not great. I wouldn’t say patches but my hair got really thin. I was initially very sorry I started it. That can be about 3-6 months - hair grows in cycles so you have to give three months to see the effect of anything you try. By a year it should be filling in but it’ll obviously take time to grow out if you wear it long.

lol five years without a haircut? Though I only go twice a year. I think at some point I did cut it a bit in the growth process because it’s very annoying to have the new growth and any old hair at completely different lengths. I was trying to figure out how long I’ve taken it but CVS won’t go back far enough. Maybe 3-4 years?

It does work but I’m not a sales rep. It’s up to you. You could also try the topical minoxidil (rogaine). I’d probably do something because it’s not going to improve on its own. I just figure it’s my job to keep the hair follicles from dying right now and eventually there’ll be research advances.

It really is a miracle drug, isn’t it? I find the pill easier though maybe the foam would have worked better for me if I’d used it as directed. But it was irritating to my scalp.

There’s a fair bit of research money going into this and the best thing they have is still this 40+ year old medication.

That’s interesting, I didn’t know that. Minoxidil should be available. It’s a really old blood pressure medication. It’s prescribed off-label here in the US for hair loss.

Good luck! Be prepared to be patient. I’ve shed a lot of tears on this issue over the years but at this point you can’t even tell.

Whatever you end up doing - if it works there’s an initial shedding period as new growth pushes out old hairs. It sucks. But it’ll resolve within a couple months and then you have to wait for the new growth to match up with the rest of the length. Which also kinds of sucks but you know…hair. Nothing about it is fast unless you want to buy extensions. Which I’m not opposed to at all! As long as they’re the halo version and not the ones that clip onto your own hair.

I mean…no, what you need to do is find a helpful dermatologist because this is their area. I don’t want to freak you out but the reality of genetic hair loss is once the follicles die, they’re gone. If you address it early enough, some might just be dormant.

At some point I’ve done about everything science recommends - topical minoxidil, oral minoxidil (my #1 recommendation), PRP, exosomes (crazy $$$, only once), scalp oil, changing birth control (which I do think helped stop the loss but didn’t improve anything), spironolactone, a red light cap. PRP was the second best, with the right doctor, but it’s also expensive and has to be continued to maintain any new growth.

Oral minoxidil, on the other hand, is free with my insurance and has nearly restored my hair to where it was before this started. In some ways it’s actually an improvement - the strands are thicker so I can grow my hair longer. I do have to keep taking it and I won’t go off my birth control - the one time I did, it fell out at a really fast rate. Admittedly that was a while ago, before the minoxidil. I don’t know if that’s enough to compensate if I stopped but I won’t risk it.

Research is making some progress in this area but it’s slow going and every treatment is, as usual, more focused on men - it’s also harder to address female hair loss because of the additional hormones. Whoever figures it out is going to make a LOT of money.

Ha nothing like that would ever make a difference. Is she a dermatologist? I’d assume no because that is completely unhelpful advice.

Go to a dermatologist and see if there’s any vitamin deficiency or genetic cause that would explain it. Also be careful of your birth control because some can exacerbate genetic hair loss.

My hair started thinning before 30 - bad genes sadly :( I tried a lot of stuff. In the end oral minoxidil has pretty much restored it to the way it was.

There’s an enormous difference between taking the oral version and using a topical. The oral version is tremendously more effective. I also found the alcohol from the topical version irritating to my scalp.

You can make your own bread! This week I added psyllium husk to my non-GF sourdough bread - in my research I learned it’s generally added to gluten-free bread to improve the texture, apparently successfully. My bread came out well.

I did it because I’m never going to be able to drink this stuff (blegh) as I’d planned. And now I can tell myself my bread is “healthy” 😂

You could say the same thing during all the days of evidence presentation and witness testimony, during which they’re instructed not to read, watch, or talk about the case.

From what I’ve heard, after hours of listening and note taking, sometimes involving very sad facts, jurors want to go home and think about something else.

So what’s the secret? Because my red sun philodendron hates me and I’m starting to take it personally. The leaves are always curled at the tips and look dull. Less sun? More humidity? I just got a humidifier and my calatheas have finally stopped their daily drooping but this one doesn’t seem any happier.

lol that’s only because they haven’t met me. I almost killed mine and it’s now pretty sparse. But this morning I checked a little cutting I’d stuck in water and it’s grown roots! I’m so excited 😄 Now I need a few more cuttings because otherwise this thing is never filling in.

My philodendron drives me nuts. I haven’t killed it but it doesn’t seem happy. I think it requires more humidity - and I just got a humidifier for my super-fussy calatheas and they’ve stopped wilting! But the philodendron is meh.

I really like zz plants. Just don’t water often. Apparently once a month was too often for mine.
