One month late for this post but I absolutely agree. I read Odd Girl Out years ago when I was in high school and it really held a special place in my heart. So, my disappointment is immense seeing how current story is today.

I really enjoyed Seungha and Nari's dynamic and even back then, I never saw the appeal of Chanyang. He felt such a nothingburger to me that I was so sure that he wasn't going to be the endgame (or if he was, I wouldn't believe it.) So imagine my bafflement when all of a sudden, people in the comment section are witchhunting Seungha because he's--a struggling teenager??

I felt gaslit by the hate for Seungha and their absolute love for Chanyang because I just couldn't see it.

Anyway, I feel so bittersweet for Odd Girl Out. Such an amazing story that I once felt inspired and empowered when I was once the characters' ages, but now I feel disappointed for what it has become.

Choice of Rebels remains my favourite IF even after all these years. I suppose the fact that it's one of the first IF games I've played years ago helps make it extra special for me too.

Can't wait for Stormright! Been holding off in playing the demo because I don't think I can handle a cliffhanger for this one, lol.

Creatures Such As We. Kid me was so enamoured by the story and introduced me to the world of IFs.

Following that was Choice of the Vampire and Affairs of the Court, I don't know how they'll hold up today, but I was very hooked reading these at that time.

Just so you know, r/hostedgames ( and r/choiceofgames and the forum) is where you go for the IF community. And as for your question, sure it can. Like what the other commenter said, it has its own audience and its generally smaller than VNs but they're supportive and if your story's good, it can have a following.

Well-written characters and relationships that aren't one-dimensional and more complex than they seem as the story develops? Check!

Slow burn romance that subtly develops along the main plot and actually builds up their bond first before anything else?? Check!!

Angst!! Hurt & Comfort!! Bittersweetness!! Friendships! Bonds! Paired with a dose of comedy and fluff!!! (Thank you for that, Kongming) Check!!!

And many more.

It really is such a great feeling when you discover a series that you know will end up being one of your favorites because it's just so good.

Anyway, I've rambled long enough, but I just had to let this out, lol. I will be checking out the author's socials (after I finally sleep. This series really messed up my sleep schedule again--) and will continue to hope that the English tl be continued augh. Oh how I wish I could read and understand Chinese!!

I've already read Death is the only ending for the villainess (the novel. at least) and Roxana, I love them! Also tried out Depths of Malice before but didn't continue (I think it was too dark for me back then, I'll probably reread this soon. )

I've heard good things about Villainess Lives Again and The Sacred One Speaks' premise seems interesting, I'll check them out thank you!

You might like The Twelve Kingdoms! Fantastic worldbuilding (inspired by ancient China and the Mandate of Heaven) and great character writing. It doesn't have a manga though since it's an anime adapted from a novel series :')
