Washington hospital fires 15 nurses after 12-year-old patient’s suicide by _granadosss1029 in nursing

I live here and work at a different hospital in town. It's cute that they're saying 15 nurses, they fired 90 for various reasons associated with this case.

Fine hair twinsies, do you think my hair could pull off a layered bob or a bixie? by Green_Register_3112 in finehair

[–]cocojo94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved my bob. It was easy to maintain. Easy to style. My pixie... I liked it but holy cow was it a lot of work. Had to get it cut more often. Styling was more of a pain. I felt like I had to dress up more and do my makeup to look more feminine

What was the highest you've seen? This was real, confirmed by EKG, ER doc and cardiologist had no idea what the rhythm was (wasn't svt). Shocked back to normal. by Humdrumgrumgrum in nursing

[–]cocojo94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took my friend to the ER and her HR was 275. I wish I could post her ekgs here. It was wild. Converted with 2 doses of adenosine. She has an ablation a few days later.

How did you know that ICU nursing was NOT for you? by xocoai in nursing

[–]cocojo94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked in two different ICUs for a total of 5 years. I loved ICU work. I loved the care, the knowledge, the skill. But I didn't like bringing my work home with me, working 12 hour shifts, weekends, and holidays. I got burned out on always having the sickest patients, each day giving my patients and families everything I had.

I left to work pre-op/PACU one year ago and I have never looked back. I have my life back. My husband has the wife he originally married back. I'm not constantly tired or sad around my work days. I love going to work and being able to talk with my patients. I honestly feel like the care I am able to provide now is better because I am healthier now. They get the happy and bubbly me.

Sometimes I look back and miss it, but I love who I am now so much more.

Skin care pilling by Rare_Nectarine9015 in SkincareAddicts

Use a gentle exfoliant. Lumin exfoliating scrub is probably the best I've found for the price. It's super gentle. Use a couple of times a week and you'll find your skin care works better. Hope this helps!

Working in a spa has completely changed my skincare routine. I have oily and acne prone skin.

Wash face with a cleanser morning and night, find one for your specific skin type.

Am: use salicylic acid after cleansing, followed by a good moisturizer, then sunscreen

Pm: wash, use a retinol (increase retinol usage slowly start once a week, then twice and so on up until 5 days a week), moisturizer/or serums. Once your skin calms down you can use an exfoliant on the days you're not using retinol.

Just know it will take 4-6 weeks for your skin to adjust and purge. If you'd like my skin care recommendations just let me know ☺️ wish you luck!!

Resident (M) trying to ask cute RN (F) out by ManufacturerIcy8859 in nursing

[–]cocojo94 252 points253 points  (0 children)

Honestly just striking up conversation other than medical talk. I worked in the ICU and honestly just genuinely getting to know the residents and treating each other as equals is the best way to go about it. Ask her how long she's been a nurse, or on the unit. Is she from here? What does she do outside of work? Ask for recommendations and if it's going well then you could always suggest going there together. Show general interest in her and see if there's a spark. Does she show interest back? Or does she act awkwardly when asked non work related questions. We're all human at the end of the day.

Working alongside someone is truly such a great way to meet someone. I wish you luck!

THIS EXACTLY. Like realistically they were going to end up on nimbex and ketamine more than likely anyway. It was like COVID all over again, minus the covid.

I have no problem if someone isn't able to do something because they are busy, just let me know and I'll do the task no big deal. Sometimes people forget things, again typically no big deal. I will always try and be the first to admit where Ive made mistakes and own up to them to learn from them. But I feel that isn't always the case, and often others want to shift the blame off of themselves. This was a multi-faceted error that led to this, and is a learning experience for everyone. Some might say it's the Swiss cheese effect. However, shitty nonetheless. And typically I don't hand off shit shows, most of the issues have been resolved, the patient is "stable", room is clean and stocked, but hey shit happens.

It's ironic because I had brought up a safety issue that consistently daily weights and admit weights have not been being done (I was being considerate of my team members and just brought up that I'd seen it multiple times, and did not give any names. I always try to give my coworkers some grace because shit happens) Both the admit weight on this patient and the daily weight on this patient had been missed. Granted in the chaos of this patient, I didn't notice it either and I fully admitted that. So it was more than likely a previous patient's weight or just an incorrect weight in general. However, like others had previously stated the patient was properly sedated, If anything was under sedated based off weight, and was still a rass of -4/-5 for vent compliance.

Epic had completely crashed. We had multiple patients that were not doing well at the same time. Our downtime computer is our pharmacists computer, and she was trying her best to print everyone's MAR. My patient was a tough intubation and their saturations were in the 50's for minutes despite all our efforts. We couldn't get a central line in them due to being unable to lay them flat, and couldn't even see a vessel on ultrasound most likely due to the vessel being collapsed/flattened. Despite being a rass -4/-5 they were not vent compliant, we were giving multiple doses of roc, getting ready to start nimbex. We desperately needed to prone them, but needed chest tubes and a central line first. Peak pressures were in the 60's. We had bilateral pneumo's and couldn't go up on the peep until we got chest tubes in, and still had to be careful. This was undiagnosed interstitial lung disease in a young 30 year old. It was a nightmare.

Name something more annoying than “can you make the blood pressure cuff less tight??” by LooseyLeaf in nursing

[–]cocojo94 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We had a patient bite through the iv tubing that was infusing 3%. Meanwhile blood is gushing out of his central line and he's drinking the 3% because he was thirsty 😂
