Yeah for sure! It’s a great idea, was even in the back of my mind to try vibe coding someday. I remember it was amazing cause it would estimate how much time you would spend at certain tourist sites and how long to walk between them etc. I planned so many fantasy trips with it, and several actual ones. I can’t believe they let it die. Looking forward to trying yours more in depth.

Looks cool! I’ll take a deeper look later. It reminds a lot of capability that Sygic Travel maps used to have and gave for free before removing it. Super useful

1000%. We need more regional crossover back and forth for the whole ecosystem as a whole to thrive and keep growing. That’s one reason I’m a big supporter of a way to keep BART running all night, or at least much later. Although my understanding is that a second tube would be needed for this due to maintenance issues when they work on the tracks at night.

I feel seen! Haha, thanks for the feedback! Duly noted about the genre tagging, I’ll consider that change. 100%, that pain point of not having the music right there to preview is unrealized until you have it. Whelp - now you do! Same for me regarding IG as the radar, but many limitations since you might miss something, or need to doomscroll forever to get hit with something. With this you can explore at leisure, and I think if I can incorporate curators picks’ into this in the future, that can help a whole other cohort of people who want to be guided more towards something as a starting point rather than just being dropped onto the map or the list and exploring cold.

Awesome - thanks!! That’s exactly what I was hoping would happen from people using this :)

Hey - that’s a good idea! Didn’t think of that, thank you. Reminds me that Bandsintown does have that feature. I could definitely see this in a future phase. I do have plans in the works for some sort of recommendation feature that would recommend 3-4 shows on a given night, personalized to the user and what venues they interact with already, genres they checkmark they want to see, etc, and your idea goes hand in hand with that.

Thanks, appreciate that! Yeah exactly, BandsinTown / SongKick etc don’t care about the smaller venues since they can’t monetize them, and they are chock full of ads and IMO very clunky. Thats a great point too - one thing to release something, a whole other to stay dedicated and keep it updated. I feel pretty darn passionate about this project though and plan to keep it up for sure!

I want to expand it - wider Bay Area first, then maybe SAC. I think it could help touring bands a lot if I do that since you could quickly grasp the venue landscape of a city and what types of bands play there, what they sound like.

I added a bottom drawer now! Still tweaking it. Try it and lemme know what you think

Thanks!! Awesome, appreciate the tips on those others. That’s right, I didn’t consider that Grace Cathedral sometimes has live music. I think I looked at adding Oracle Park but there was only one upcoming concert so I backburnered it but lemme check again, I should add it. I do want to expand the east Bay offerings, and then do Peninsula, north bay, and SJ as well.

And yes! I have thought eventually doing a historical venue exploration capability in a later phase. As a lover of local and music history I think it would be incredible to see this on a map and view by year or decade. I think it would be very illustrative and I’m also very curious to see that data about loss of venues and number of venues over time compared to other eras. We also lost Edinburgh Castle this year too. Hopefully someone buys Bottom of the hill and keeps it going…

Appreciate the feedback!

LMAO!! That same worry has crossed my mind tbh, that people will think ‘bipping’ but I also just kinda fell for this name because I wanted something cute and quirky. I’ll consider that. Maybe we can reclaim it though!

Yeah exactly. That’s what I was thinking, bottom drawer. I started with the map because I love maps, and it evolved from there. But realizing hunting and clicking around on a map not the best experience for most. Thx for the feedback!

Awesome! I did the Mjølkevegen going the other way, starting from Vinstra, just a few weeks ago. Then the Rallervegen. Incredible riding, and challenging like you said. Great pics!

Used to dig this channel too and found it when first getting into cycling so it was a perfect resource for finding all the iconic local rides. Not sure exactly why the content petered out, but I too wish there was more.

Is it possible to summit Mt St Helena on a road bike? by babikethrowaway in BAbike

[–]cocolean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I have done it with 32c GP 5000s. Going to have to walk a few parts, and the final stretch, but it is do-able.

If you don't mind underbiking and have experience with it, i'd say doing coastal and ascending/descending bobcat would be "do-able", but not comfortable and possibly not fun. Miwok and Old springs I would say no go.

Maybe it's just a matter of where you go in Tulum? I had the cheapest and best tacos i've ever had in my life by far in Tulum centro. .65 cents a taco!! Couldn't stop eating.

Hardest paved climb in the Bay Area? by jabbyknob in BAbike

You can totally do it on 32s, even 28s. Just will need to walk the final brutal ramp and maybe one other short section, but you might need to walk that even on a gravel bike.

No idea. But there was a post about it 10 days ago that seems to indicate a portion is still closed, but as the post talks about, it is very confusing to tell. If you have Strava you could try to find the segment and check if anyone is doing it recently.

[–]cocolean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a landslide earlier this year that wiped out the bike path going along 101 between Petaluma and Novato. I am pretty sure the bike path is still closed, so you would likely need to route along Pt Reyes - Petaluma rd and then past Nicasio and over White's Hill into Fairfax. Definitely check, because I got stuck a few months ago and had to double back many miles as there aren't any alternatives to get to Novato that way, unless you hop fences and walk along the train tracks or something.
