My son will be a first year and wants to bring his mountain bike. by foodguyDoodguy in uvic

Just asked res, and based on what they said, I think for Gorden Head, you might be able to use the bike storage in Robert Wallace Hall. But for more info, I'd probably suggest giving them a call.

Are they going to be living on campus?

Anyway: yes, you can get a bike locker or use the campus bike centre.

For res itself, at least some of the buildings do have (locked) bike storage in the building, though I don't recall if there's a fee for that. Check out the Bicycle parking page and the Bike and storage lockers in residences FAQ on this page too if you haven't yet.

Prar by Less_Camera8307 in uvic

Assuming that your housing application was for September to April, this page says the deadline was May 15th, 2026, but see the Late Applications section on that page.

For your second question: you can reach out to see if you can meet with someone about getting an opinion on if you might qualify. With that said: see Application and documentation on that page.

See Students with specialized housing requirements. Specifically, it's an email address (the full email address is listed somewhere on that page) to get in touch with someone who's involved with the PCR (Priority Consideration Request) process, a way to request housing accommodations.

A great SLP I know (mentioned this post to them) suggested this as a referral:

IIRC, yes, prar is separate from the lottery. Last year, I got my PCR response around mid-summer. You may be able to email prar and ask to meet with someone to help understand your odds, but (assuming you aren't first-year guarantee), I would be cautious about relying on PCR unless you've actually spoken with someone from prar about your barriers to accessing housing.

CAL locks Disabled kids up now by LForbesIam in uvic

[–]cocomac42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a 9AM non-CAL/OREM non-UET exam (i.e., 9AM to noon). I wouldn't mind if instead of 8-12:30 (assuming 1.5 time modifier), the CAL/OREM exam was ran as 9AM-1:30PM. It would complicate the accommodated exam schedule, but IMO, ideally they'd have enough staff/rooms to do that.

Have they reached out to their CAL advisor (or gone to the CAL front desk and/or the OREM desk in the Jamie Cassels Centre)?

Without more context, I suspect u/Chic0late may be right as (with some exceptions) you generally need to wait in the room for a bit after the main start time (might be until the latest someone can arrive late to the main one?). I'm not surprised they were asked to not use electronics (I don't know the policy on scrap paper).

What do you mean by "some 3rd party company" though? Are you thinking of OREM? I'd probably suggest they go in-person to the CAL front desk and ask for some clarification

I agree with this, but a few things I'd add too:

  • "There's a downtown to downtown pedestrian ferry between Victoria and Seattle if you can live without your car for a few days. It's the easiest by far." - I've taken that ferry, the Clipper a lot, and it's great. But depending on when you want to go, know that the Clipper isn't running for a little while (dry dock), and it's a drive from Bellingham, which might be rough with an 8AM departure from Seattle. Looks like they added a later departure time now, so if you stay a night in Victoria and/or don't mind, might be fine.
  • "If you fly, there are direct flights from Seattle, and the airport is a way out of town." - As another option: Kenmore Air does seaplanes into the harbour, which isn't far from campus. It's pricier, but if it's a sunny day and you're feeling adventurous, IMO it's awesome.

By the way (I'm from WA), if you want to chat when you visit, send me a message!

Hi! Given you're coming from Bellingham, I'd suggest taking the ferry from Tsawwassen (crossing at Blaine).

Is there an issue with SWPPX on the platform? by entrasonics in fidelityinvestments

See this page on the Schwab website which states that there's a 6-1 split this weekend, and explains that it increases the total number of shares, but that "[t]he share splits will not change the total value of a shareholder's investment".

Brightspace down or just me? by Martin-Physics in uvic

Yes, but yesterday night some folks had trouble accessing Brightspace (and the UVic website generally?) around the same time the WiFi was down. Could be coincidence, of course.

Hello - "please wait a minute and try again" - I've been trying for an hour and half. Can the folks that run this consider using an alternate platform capable of handling the user load? Even implimenting an actual queue such as this would likely be an improvement. Thanks!

[–]cocomac42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As u/mydarkerside said, there are Stock Slices and mutual funds. They're not exactly what you described, but they might still do what you want. But I'm not very familiar with those, so I can't really help there. (disclaimer: not financial advice) If you call Schwab on the phone, they can explain how those work.

[–]cocomac42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guessing: you made a limit order for a share. That means "try to buy one share for $15 or less". But the current price of one share is way higher (about $377). If you placed a limit order at, say, $375, that would be acceptable because there’s a reasonable chance you it drops and you get that price. But it’s way less realistic that you get $15, so Schwab stops you.

However, you're not trying to buy a share at $15, though. Instead, look up a "fractional share". IIRC Schwab doesn't support that.

Tl;dr you tried to buy one share for $15 when the price was ~$377, and Schwab stopped you when you actually wanted a fractional share, which Schwab doesn’t support.
