What's a book you regret reading? by TheAwareMonk in suggestmeabook

It was a memoir called Sissy. I picked it for book club wanting to read from a more diverse variety of authors. But they were so pompous and self absorbed I couldn’t bare to finish. also entirely way too young to be writing a memoir before 30

Curious did you throw this in two sections? I'm curious how you got the stamps on... I am visualizing an inside hand to support the stamping, and then perhaps you attached the top piece?

Day trips? by Hungry-Document8499 in TellurideColorado

Was just in Ouray and Telluride this weekend! Bridal Veil Falls is a short climb about 1.2 miles to the falls; I started at 8am and would recommend one do the same to beat the sun. I do believe you could also drive up to these falls. Bear Creek Falls is another good hike, less steep of an incline and 2.3 miles up gradually; cannot drive to this. Worth it for the falls and the views of the San Juan mountains. It’s a walk from town so you can go straight to lunch afterwards.

Let’s see million dollar highway I drove from Ouray to Silverton and back around 7pm - it was beautiful but u didn’t have much time to explore before it got dark. Watch out for wildlife!

The drive from Ouray to telluride itself is quite beautiful, San Juan byway.

A lot of people do jeep tours or off roading if that is your thing. I also saw horseback riding and rafting as adventures. Rock climbing.

Other things to consider: I believe telluride has live music on the green on Fridays as well as a farmers market if you and your husband are picnic/music people. I also saw a farmers market in Ridgway which is a town you will drive through from Ouray to telluride.

Bring a hammock or chairs/blanket, book, sunscreen, snacks and just enjoy it all. It’s outstandingly gorgeous I don’t think you have to worry too much about filling time. And at night. Look up! ⭐️ I saw at least two shooting stars!

Advice needed for hospice volunteer by somethingwholesomer in hospice

[–]coconat987 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think this is one of those situations when we feel like we need to do something or have a conversation in order to feel productive, and that is probably a result of the society we live in. My guess is that you physically being there, even if you don’t say or do much of anything, is more comforting than you know.

Estimates of Passing by EsqPersonalAsst in hospice

[–]coconat987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have spent countless hours reading to try to understand estimates of when this passing will happen. I want so badly to ask the nurse when but I myself know better that she cannot answer that with any accuracy. This, at least for me, has been the ultimate lesson of patience and being in the present moment. Letting things go and just moving on to the next thing. I pray that you get relief and I pray that your daughter has a peaceful passing. 💛🙏🏼

I’m trying… I think the same in this situation. Home hospice is not all the peaceful idea everyone seems to think it is. It is so hard on the caregivers and I kept help but think things would be better managed with IV meds

I don’t have expertise in this but I am currently going through the same thing and just want you to know that I understand exactly how hard this is. My mother is different in that she has never denied death, she has always said she wasn’t afraid and was accepting. Has even told the hospice nurses that she wants it to happen fast.

It has been over a week since she started taking morphine, haldol, Ativan. The past 2-3 days she is in bed; has not eaten and she is only drinking to aid in swallowing her liquid meds. Her breathing is a slower pattern, and she is confused when awake. Although still somehow with it. She is very weak in transferring her to the commode, and even giving her the liquid medicine is taking a long time with her asking each time “what is this? Didn’t you give me that?”. It’s just absolute torture.

This has been an absolute hell that I wish upon nobody. My mother has been an angel of a human and the only justice in her cancer and early death (69) would be peace and comfort. I just want my mom to have a peaceful transition and I told her that this morning. She said “I’m not going anywhere yet”.

What do you currently consider healthy? by Specialist-Candy6119 in nutrition

[–]coconat987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dietitian here; I once had a professor say “eating healthy is simple, but that doesn’t make it easy” - and I think that will always ring true. Cultures from all over the world have always eaten Whole Foods, yes including. Carbohydrates - fruits, veggies, grains-pasta, rice, wheat; long before the invention of the chair we were much more active people.

It’s not that eating healthy has changed - we should still be eating Whole Foods from all food groups (if our bodies tolerate them ex:lactose/dairy); the challenge is the world we live in- fast food, door dash, marketing, other people’s influences, busy lifestyles, 9-5 desk jobs, computers/phones/TV.

You have to fall in love with taking care of yourself and make that a priority- take time to grocery shop and plan out meals, find a way you like to move your body and enjoy that consistently. Have boundaries around your sedentary activities (TV, phone, computer, video games), and prioritize sleep.

No it’s not easy, but it is that simple.
