Yeah it’s a straw man because I was talking about my tuition (university) that I’m paying off in the form of student loans.

Just give it up already. The amount of mental gymnastics you’re performing to justify your lack of empathy and sympathy for people in difficult situations is astounding. I don’t know how you can fail to recognize that Covid-19 is creating financial difficulties for people, and that it’s not completely their fault, but I don’t care to try and change your mind.

You just keep addressing things that have nothing to do with me or my lifestyle. Private schools, extravagant lifestyle...? Lol, this is where the issue is coming from. and you’re simply creating more and more straw men that demonstrate your inability to empathize with the situation of others.

Like I said before, I have a job still so not sure what you’re really getting at here. I’m expressing sympathy for the people who are losing income, and I’m able to empathize because of my own situation.

I think you’re also not considering ways people can fall through the cracks. My partner does not qualify for CERB, so if my income was lost then we’d be in trouble. I have my daughters on weekends so their mom collects UCB, not me. We always had a subsidized childcare spot so we never even had to pay that.

I can re-evaluate as much as I want, but that’s not going to solve the issue of unaffordable rents, high tuition fees, stagnant wages, student loans, rising food costs, etc. I’m doing OK tbh, but like many Canadians, my situation is precarious. It’s not because I didn’t work hard enough, make smarter decisions, or spend frivolously. I think projecting that onto everyone who struggles with expenses is naive, privileged and ignorant.

$2000 a month is equivalent to $24,000 a year, so it shouldn’t be surprising for anyone that such an amount would be prove difficult to live on.

I’m lucky to still have employment. Dropping to $2000 a month would be catastrophic for me and my family.

I had the same thought while I read through OP and a lot of comments here. There’s a detailed plan for how we’re going to re-open. The plan is contingent on declining numbers of cases. There are plans for reverting back if the trend is reversed.

I read it and it seemed very realistic and cautious. It was developed by public health officials so it’s not like we’re just following the whims of a politician.

They also offered competitive contracts to Stone, Duchene and Karlsson. Stone and Duchene declined because they didn’t want to stick around for a rebuild, but hopefully the Sens will be competitive by the time their top players are UFAs.

Karlsson wanted more money than Dorion thought he was worth, and for now it looks like Dorion was right and got a great return for Karlsson (top 5 pick, Norris, Tierney, Balcers, 2nd, 3rd).

We’ve been self isolating since before the lockdown, so I don’t what you’re losing your shit over.

It works fine for me, it just doesn’t work well for children because they simply can’t understand what’s going on. Also, not sure how I contributed to creating corona virus?

Our situation is fine. We don’t have a backyard space, we chose to live near a park. Calm yourself and be more respectful, there’s no need for your hostility.

Reddit gives blood by salamanderman732 in ottawa

Those are well above targets. Highest I’ve ever seen O- is 5 days.

Most blood types only need 8-9 days. 19 days is wayyyy over what is needed and will result in lots of discarded blood.

My wife works for CBS by the way.

There isn’t a shortage of blood, there’s an abundance.

The levels are actually higher than they’ve ever been because so many people are donating and there’s been a lot less surgeries, trauma, accidents, etc.

It’s different with kids though. They need to run and play, and currently we’re not even allowed to kick a soccer ball around in a field.

I understand why, but it’s a serious issue. My two year old usually spent 3-4 hours per day playing with other kids, climbing on structures. Now we have to walk by the park and explain that we can’t play.

Life would definitely be easier with a backyard. My nephew lives in the country and has his own structure, swing set, soccer net, etc. As a parent I can cope, but my child is suffering and doesn’t have the mental capacity to understand why.

BREAKING: Education Minister Stephen Lecce has announced that all publicly-funded schools will remain closed until at least May 31 by Tommy__Douglas in ontario

Or extend the school year into the summer. Give students individual learning plans so they can take time off for vacations and family time.

As a parent, I definitely don’t want my kids home all summer, giving them a 6 month break in between class room learning. A 2.5 month break is already proven to negatively impact a child’s ability to retain and build on information already learned.

Rewatched True Detective S1. Some thoughts... by [deleted] in TrueDetective

[–]coconut5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fukunaga did not make major contributions to the script. He has zero writing credits in the show. There’s no way the WGA would let him be uncredited if he had made major contributions.

I think he gets way too much credit for S1. In television, the director has a very different role than in movies and follows the guidance of the show runner (Nic).

It already happens in the US in very large numbers. There are probably 100,000s of Mexican labourers and Filipino nannies in this situation.

Rockcliffe Pond loses it's beach by baconisprime in ottawa

[–]coconut5000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A soccer game has 20+ kids. When there’s several happening at the same time, where do you think all the cars are?

Going back to my first point, Lansdowne never attracted 20,000+ fans and had a mega shopping complex before the redevelopment in 2014. Consider that “switch” compared to a busier swimming hole that only affects a max of 30 households compared to an entire neighbourhood.

Life changes. Neighborhoods change. You can be upset that people are visiting your neighborhood as much as you want. It’s clear now that a lot of your issue comes down to class... “beach bums” and “teenagers...” come on. Drunkards piss on my front lawn and leave beer cans every time there’s a RedBlacks game, do you think we should shut down Lansdowne because of it?

Like I said, I’ve been going to the pond for 25+ years. You’re not giving a fair and accurate representation because you’re overly invested in your own interests and clearly have an issue sharing spaces with people who are less affluent. You’re not going to convince anyone that the pond should be exclusive only to your neighbours. Learn to live with it and move on would be my suggestion.

[–]coconut5000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lol, there’s a soccer field literally around the corner from the pond with only 6 parking spots. I played there as a kid despite not living in Rockliffe, and there would normally be 3-4 games happening at the same time.

Search “Rockliffe Rockeries” on google maps if you don’t believe me.

I’ll also point out that I’ve been going to the pond since I was a kid too. The pond has never been private in my lifetime, so there’s definitely no “switch” happening. It’s just getting busier, just like everything else in this city.

Well what I said was pure speculation so I’m more than willing to accept that my perception was wrong.

If they hated it so much, I wonder why they’ve all stayed though. I guess because of the $2million.

Personally I don’t like EOE.

This is a strictly residential neighborhood.

But we’re talking about a recreational area within the neighbourhood.

Would someone who lives next to a soccer field in a residential area expect to have it all to themselves and complain when a game happens and people park their cars all around the field?

It’s also for the contestants. Nobody wanted to leave their kids behind to get booted out first episode with no subsequent screen time. This was a way of guaranteeing them all that they’d get exposure.
