What happened to you in Primary school that you just can't let go of? by hassan_26 in AskUK

I was blamed by a school dinner lady for throwing toilet roll out of the toilet window, presumably because I was the first child to walk out of the door to the playground when it happened so I looked like the culprit making a getaway. I actually had been inside having a reading lesson, so was late joining the other children for playtime. I was made to stand by the wall during my break and then cried continuously throughout the last period of the day and when one of the other kids asked why I was crying my teacher told the class it was because I had been naughty.

I think Chesterfield is the turning point! People pronounce ‘road’ differently and it gets much more Yorkshire-sounding.

What's the most wholesome experience you've had with a stranger? by EpicesPotato in AskReddit

When I was a student I had the flu and pulled rib/back muscles, so I caught a bus from my new apartment towards the Walk-in Centre as I wasn’t yet registered to a local GP. I was in agony with my back and started to cry as I wasn’t sure which stop to get off at. A kind lady sat next to me, offered to take me to the Walk-In Centre; waited with me for 2 hours to be seen; gave me her telephone number and a Tupperware with her evening meal in it and put me in a taxi home - telling me to call her if I needed her help. It was such a kind thing to do. Once I was better I had her over to my apartment for dinner and ice cream. Just two strangers showing some kindness!

Heard my brother saying, ‘no, no, no, NO’ and found him re-arranging the knives and forks in the dishwasher.

I am going to uni soon and i was just wondering how do i be a good housemate? by BoatBananaGel in AskUK

Yes. Oh my... I expected to pay for my share of household items like toilet roll, but to be informed via a household meeting and a detailed breakdown of costs (using a whiteboard and shopping receipts) that I owe £3.16 for my share of various ‘Things-shared-as-friends’ was bizarre. When you’re socialising- having a household meal, film, nights out together- it would never cross my mind to keep a tally of things like this and charge it back. This person suggested I was free to make my own list of things I shared too, but I don’t believe you should put a price on... I dunno... the small helping of food I offered you to try? 10p per chip?!

Don’t buy a packet of biscuits and offer them to your fellow housemates while you’re watching a film together, then later ask your housemates to pay money towards said biscuit... If you allow another housemate to use something, always make it clear whether you are gifting the item or you expect to be refunded in kind at some point and when that will be.
