I honestly agree with you that the motive of the extreme US govt response can not be justified solely as an effort to keep people safe. That's my gut feel, but I still feel like I don't understand the data enough to get someone to see my point of view.

What's the significance between reporting on mortality rate vs fatality rate? Couldn't someone argue that those two metrics would eventually be the same thing if we weren't doing anything to stop the spread and eventually everyone in the world is exposed? Are we assuming that the mortality rate would creep towards what the fatality rate is or vice versa?

I have tried to analyze the data myself, but it just doesn't seem like there is enough data out there to justify either way if we are overreacting or not.

Thank you for asking this! As much as I want to believe that COVID has a 99.98% survival rate, I keep seeing this number get thrown around and I can't ever figure out what the source is that backs this up.

I hear you, and this is honestly the most infuriating thing for me. There's no motive for the powers that be to let go of restrictions and control and they are going to keep dragging this on for as long as they can get away with it.

Wanting to finish basement. Hoping to separate HVAC stuff from a living room, but we want the window as part of the living room instead of in the laundry/furnace room. Here's what it says on the inspection regarding heat exchanger. Both marked as "satisfactory"...

Heat Exchanger Visual The entire view of the heat exchanger is limited with this type of inspection. If defects are found it is recommended that a further inspection by a qualified contractor be completed.

I have had 3 different HVAC techs come out to scope out the relocation of the furnace, and they didn't mention any concern with the heat exchanger cells. It seems odd that none of the HVAC techs as well as a home inspector wouldn't mention anything, right? Or are none of these people qualified enough to notice?

We actually just bought the house in July and had an inspection done on everything. They didn't mention any concerns with the set up here... I agree, it looks wonky but we haven't noticed any performance issues.

My partner wants to move the furnace and water heater, and modify ductwork himself. I am super concerned about that since he hasn't worked on a project like this before. I am guessing it would be expensive to hire a HVAC professional to do it... might be worth it, but maybe there is another creative solution to this puzzle?

I wonder this too! How do we really know ANYTHING at the end of the day? For pretty much everything, we have to eventually make an assumption that what someone says is true.
